Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Nature Night Out
Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Nature Night Out gives kids an evening of outdoor adventure, live animal encounters, and campfire fun while parents enjoy a rare quiet night off. Hosted by Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, the program is designed for children ages 6 to 12 and blends hands-on nature exploration with classic summer-camp-style activities across the wooded trails and outdoor spaces surrounding the Nature Center. From games and interactive learning to evening hikes under the fading light, the event leans heavily into the kind of unplugged outdoor experience many kids rarely get enough of anymore.
Throughout the evening, participants will take part in guided activities focused on wildlife, nature, and exploration while also meeting some of the Nature Center’s live animal ambassadors up close. The setting itself adds a lot to the experience. Tucked into the wooded landscape of Mystic, the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center has long served as one of the region’s best-known environmental education destinations, offering trails, exhibits, and programs that connect children and families to the natural world in ways that feel active and engaging rather than classroom-like.
As the sun sets, the event shifts into full summer-night mode with pizza, s’mores, and a gathering around the fire before the evening concludes. Organizers encourage children to dress appropriately for changing weather conditions and bring flashlights for the nighttime portion of the adventure. Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Nature Night Out takes place May 23 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nature Center in Mystic.
