Event Description
Halluween and Trunk or Treat transforms downtown Westerly into a Halloween playground on Saturday, October 31, with giant roaming puppets, trick-or-treating, live music, costumes, and a parade led by a marching drum corps.
Beginning at 5 p.m., the free celebration spreads across High Street and the UNITED Theatre, bringing together local businesses, artists, musicians, and families for an evening of Halloween entertainment.
From a parking lot filled with trunk-or-treat festivities to a gallery transformed into a musical Wonderland, this isn’t just another stop for Halloween candy. It’s a downtown-wide celebration with something around nearly every corner.
Giant Monsters Are Coming to High Street
One of the evening’s most unusual attractions comes courtesy of artist Anne Cubberly and her Giant Puppet menagerie.
Families can stroll alongside enormous, imaginative creatures as they make their way through the Halloween festivities.
These oversized creations add a theatrical twist to the evening, turning downtown Westerly into a setting where larger-than-life characters can appear among the trick-or-treaters.
For children who love monsters, fantasy creatures, and unexpected surprises, the puppets promise to be one of HallUween’s most memorable sights.
Trick-or-Treating, Movies, and Halloween Crafts
High Street will be buzzing with families collecting treats and enjoying the festive downtown atmosphere.
A special trunk-or-treat celebration takes place in the municipal parking lot next to Miceli’s Furniture, sponsored by The Pantry.
Meanwhile, the UNITED’s Black Box will host Navigant Credit Union’s Spooktacular Movie Drop-In & Craft Station.
Families can stop in for classic Halloween films and creative activities designed for all ages, including adults.
The drop-in format makes it easy to enjoy a movie or spend some time making crafts before heading back outside for more Halloween adventures.
A Spooky Wonderland With Live Music
Inside the UNITED’s gallery event space, Halloween takes a more imaginative turn.
The Westerly Alternative Artists’ Guild is creating a Wonderland installation, accompanied by live music performed by Alice and the Mad Hatter.
The combination of visual art, familiar storybook characters, and eerie musical entertainment adds another dimension to the downtown celebration.
It’s an opportunity to explore a different side of Halloween, where the atmosphere is as much about fantasy and creativity as costumes and candy.
A Drum Corps Leads the Halloween Parade
At 6 p.m., the UNITED Music School Drum Corps takes the lead for a Halloween costume parade through downtown.
The procession will feature acrobats, hoopers, and other performers, bringing music, movement, and plenty of Halloween spectacle to the streets.
Families are encouraged to wear their costumes and join the festivities.
The parade concludes with an awards ceremony recognizing the evening’s best costumes and spookiest screams.
Whether you’re dressed as a classic monster, a superhero, a princess, or something entirely original, the parade offers a chance to become part of the celebration.
A Halloween Night for the Whole Community
HallUween brings together the arts, local businesses, and neighborhood organizations for a celebration that extends beyond traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating.
With activities spread between the UNITED Theatre, High Street, and nearby downtown locations, families can move between music, movies, crafts, giant puppets, and Halloween treats throughout the evening.
The event is free and open to families, making it an accessible way to enjoy Halloween in downtown Westerly.
The festivities begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, with the costume parade scheduled for 6 p.m. An overall ending time has not been announced.
