Event Description
The Greater Mystic Halloween Parade & Trunk or Treat returns to downtown Mystic on Sunday, October 25, transforming Water Street and the surrounding waterfront into a lively Halloween celebration filled with costumes, candy, music, and family fun.
Presented by the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce and the Mystic Fire Department, this free community event invites children, parents, businesses, and local organizations to come together for an afternoon of Halloween festivities in one of southeastern Connecticut’s most recognizable downtown settings.
The celebration begins at 1 p.m. with a costume parade through Mystic, followed by trunk-or-treat activities and entertainment at the Mystic Firehouse.
A Halloween Parade Through the Heart of Mystic
The festivities kick off on Water Street outside Friar Tuck’s Restaurant, where costumed participants will gather for a Halloween procession through downtown.
From there, the parade makes its way through Mystic, crossing the famous Mystic Drawbridge before continuing to the Mystic Firehouse.
It’s a route that combines the fun of a neighborhood Halloween parade with some of the area’s most familiar waterfront scenery.
Children can show off their costumes as they walk alongside family members, friends, and other community participants.
Superheroes, witches, ghosts, princesses, monsters, and imaginative homemade creations are all welcome.
The event offers an opportunity for families to enjoy Halloween in a public, community-centered setting rather than waiting until October 31 for traditional trick-or-treating.
Trunk-or-Treating at the Mystic Firehouse
Following the parade, the celebration continues at the Mystic Firehouse with trunk-or-treating, games, music, and candy.
Local businesses, organizations, and community members are invited to participate by decorating vehicles and creating Halloween-themed displays.
For children, the decorated trunks become trick-or-treating stops, offering treats and an opportunity to enjoy the creativity of participating groups.
The firehouse setting also brings a special community connection to the festivities, with the Mystic Fire Department helping host an afternoon designed for families.
The event’s combination of a downtown parade and a central trunk-or-treat location makes it a particularly appealing outing for parents with younger children.
Local Businesses Help Bring Halloween to Life
The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses and organizations to take part in the celebration.
Participating groups can decorate their vehicles, distribute candy, and join the community in creating a festive Halloween atmosphere.
The event provides an opportunity for local organizations to connect with families while contributing to one of Mystic’s seasonal traditions.
Businesses and community groups interested in participating should consult the Chamber’s registration information for requirements and event-day instructions.
Halloween Fun With a Community Purpose
The celebration also supports United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, connecting an afternoon of Halloween entertainment with an opportunity to help neighbors in need.
Families are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations to support the organization’s community assistance efforts.
The charitable component adds another dimension to the event, giving participants a way to contribute while enjoying the parade and festivities.
It’s a reminder that some of the best community celebrations combine entertainment with the chance to make a difference.
A Downtown Halloween Tradition for All Ages
With its historic streets, waterfront scenery, and distinctive drawbridge, downtown Mystic provides a memorable backdrop for a Halloween parade.
The event brings together many of the elements families enjoy most about the season: colorful costumes, candy, decorated vehicles, music, and the excitement of seeing familiar places transformed for a holiday celebration.
Whether you’re participating in the parade, bringing children for trick-or-treating, or simply enjoying the spectacle of hundreds of Halloween costumes moving through downtown, the afternoon promises a festive start to Halloween week.
Admission is free, and families are encouraged to come dressed for the occasion.
