If you’re thinking about leaving the couch behind and seeing a movie the old-fashioned way—big screen, dark room, popcorn in hand—here are a few worth checking out this weekend, plus where they’re playing around southeastern Connecticut.
If you were hoping for something new and exciting at the theater this weekend… maybe lower your expectations. There’s not much to write home about, but a throwback screening early next week and a few decent holdovers might save you from another night scrolling streaming apps. Next weekend looks better with Animal Farm, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and Hocum.

The Silence of the Lambs – 35th Anniversary Screening
This one technically falls just outside the weekend—but it might be your best bet until the next one. When’s the last time you let Anthony Hopkins creep you out on a big screen?
There’s something different about seeing The Silence of the Lambs in a dark theater again—the tension, the silence, the way the whole room locks in. If you remember the first time you saw it (or somehow missed it), this is one of those movies that actually feels worth leaving the house for.
Playing:
- Mystic Luxury Cinemas — 7:30 PM (Mon 27th & Wed 29th)
- Westbrook Cinemas 12 — 7:00 PM
- Showcase Warwick — 6:30 PM
Grab the popcorn, sit in the dark, and see if it hits the same. It probably will.

The Drama
If you’re looking for something a little more thoughtful for a night out, The Drama is still a strong date-movie pick—even if it’s been out for a few weeks.
Starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, the film follows an engaged couple whose relationship gets thrown off balance during the week leading up to their wedding, forcing them to confront secrets, expectations, and what they actually want from each other.
It’s not your typical rom-com—it leans darker, more introspective, and a little uncomfortable in a good way. Critics have responded well, with a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, pointing to strong performances and a story that digs deeper than it first appears. (Rotten Tomatoes)
It came out April 3, so it’s not brand new—but that actually works in your favor. Easier to get seats, less crowded theaters, and still one of the better options if you’re trying to do something that feels a little more “date night” than just sitting on the couch.

If you’re trying to get out of the house but still keep it low-key, this is a solid pick 👍

Project Hail Mary
If you’re looking for something everyone can agree on, Project Hail Mary is still playing—and honestly, it’s good enough to see again. Starring Ryan Gosling, the film follows a lone astronaut who wakes up with no memory and realizes he might be humanity’s last shot at survival. It’s smart, funny, and surprisingly emotional, balancing big sci-fi ideas with a story that’s easy to get pulled into.
It came out back on March 20, but with a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s one of the rare movies that actually lives up to the hype. It’s also a great family pick at PG-13—something you can take everyone to without overthinking it.
If you missed it the first time—or just want an excuse to sit in a dark theater and demolish another tub of popcorn—it’s still playing at:
Some movies are worth a second trip. This is one of them 👍

Michael
Michael, the biopic about Michael Jackson, hits theaters on the 24th—and based on early reactions, this one might be more for the die-hards than everyone else.
The film tracks Jackson’s rise and larger-than-life persona, but it leans heavily into the spectacle and mythology. That works if you’re already all-in. If not, it may feel like a long reminder that some stories are better left to the music. It’s currently sitting at 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, which tells you pretty much everything you need to know.
If you’re curious (or just want to subject yourself to it), you can catch it at:
Go in knowing what you’re getting—and maybe keep your expectations in check 👍
