Pawcatuck River Duck Race Returns This Saturday
A familiar sight is coming back to the river this weekend—thousands of rubber ducks taking over downtown Westerly-Pawcatuck.
The Ocean Community Chamber Foundation’s annual Pawcatuck River Duck Race returns Saturday, April 25, marking its 26th year. The event draws large crowds each spring and supports local programs through the chamber and participating schools and nonprofits.
Around 20,000 rubber ducks will be released into the Pawcatuck River, each tied to a numbered certificate. Entries cost $5, giving participants a shot at more than 90 prizes. The top prize is a choice between $2,500 in cash or a family trip to Walt Disney World.
There’s also a Corporate Duck Race ahead of the main event, where local businesses compete for a $1,500 cash prize. That portion is limited to 150 entries and typically fills up quickly.
The day isn’t just about the race. Activities start earlier and include food, live music, and family-friendly attractions like games and a bounce house, turning it into a full-day event.
Race day kicks off at Donahue Park at 11:30 a.m. The Corporate Duck Race begins at 1 p.m., followed by the main race at 1:30 p.m.
Duck certificates can be purchased through the Ocean Community Chamber, at select locations around town, or on the day of the event.
