Whaling Coast Highland Games
Whaling Coast Highland Games makes its debut on Saturday, July 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the North Stonington Fairgrounds, bringing a full day of Scottish athletics, Celtic traditions, and family-friendly entertainment to southeastern Connecticut. The inaugural event features all nine traditional Scottish heavy athletic competitions, including the crowd-favorite caber toss, hammer throw, and Braemar stone throw, with athletes traveling from across New England to compete.
Beyond the athletic competitions, visitors can experience a hands-on stonelifting clinic presented by New England Stonelifting, watch local teams battle in a spirited Tug of War Tournament, and enjoy food from a variety of local food trucks throughout the day. Opening ceremonies begin at 9:00 a.m., setting the stage for a celebration of Scottish heritage, friendly competition, and community pride. The event blends centuries-old Highland traditions with the maritime character of Connecticut’s Whaling Coast, creating a unique festival for all ages.
Proceeds from the Whaling Coast Highland Games benefit Goat’s Charity Athletic Club Inc., helping provide mental health benefits and support services for the nation’s veterans. Whether you’re a fan of Scottish culture, strength sports, or simply looking for a unique summer outing, the inaugural Whaling Coast Highland Games promises an unforgettable day where Celtic strength meets the seafaring spirit of southeastern Connecticut.
