The Flock Theatre presents Romeo & Juliet at the Connecticut College Arboretum during an eight-performance outdoor run from July 23 through August 2, with performances beginning nightly at 7:00 p.m. Set beneath the trees of the Connecticut College Arboretum, Flock Theatre’s fresh interpretation of Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy promises a fast-paced, energetic production that reveals the play as a thrilling blend of romance, humor, violence, and heartbreak rather than simply “the greatest love story ever told.”
Directed by Derron Wood, the production embraces the play’s intensity, capturing the whirlwind romance between Romeo and Juliet while highlighting the deadly consequences of the bitter feud between their families. Written by William Shakespeare around 1595, Romeo & Juliet remains one of the world’s most celebrated plays, exploring themes of love, fate, family conflict, and youthful passion that continue to resonate with audiences more than four centuries later. Flock Theatre’s production features a large ensemble cast led by Brandon Tyler and Virginia Keister, bringing Shakespeare’s classic to life in one of southeastern Connecticut’s most beautiful outdoor performance spaces.
