First Annual Penguin Paddle Parade

First Annual Penguin Paddle Parade brings Arctic fun to the Mystic River on Sunday, June 21, as Adventure Mystic launches one of the most unusual events of the summer season. Participants will paddle the Mystic River alongside a special Arctic-themed guest while a film crew from NotGeo documents the festivities. The event combines outdoor adventure, community fun, and a healthy dose of shoreline eccentricity in a way that feels uniquely Mystic.

Experienced paddlers are invited to bring their own stand-up paddleboard (SUP), kayak, or other paddle-powered vessel to take part in the parade. For those without equipment, a limited number of paddleboard and kayak rentals are available. Organizers note that the event is intended for experienced paddlers; children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and advance registration is required, as no walk-up registrations will be accepted.

The parade concludes with an opportunity for participants to meet and take photos with the event’s featured penguin-themed guest. Portions of the proceeds will benefit charity, while organizers hope the inaugural event becomes a memorable summer tradition on the Mystic River. With limited rental availability and no rain date scheduled, participants are encouraged to register early.
