Connecticut Open House at The Garde Arts Center
Connecticut Open House at The Garde Arts Center invites visitors to explore one of southeastern Connecticut’s most iconic cultural landmarks during a day of free community programming on Saturday, June 13. As part of Connecticut Open House Day, the historic downtown New London theater will open its doors from noon to 5 p.m., offering guided tours, hands-on activities, film screenings, art exhibits, and opportunities to experience the rich history of the nearly century-old venue.
Guests can take part in free guided tours at noon and 1 p.m., where they’ll learn about the Garde’s stunning Moroccan-inspired architecture, fascinating history, and role as one of New London’s most treasured cultural institutions since 1926. Visitors can also stop by the ECSO Instrument Zoo, where children and adults can try instruments such as violins, cellos, and clarinets. Additional activities include a free screening of The Connecticut Story on the theater’s giant screen and access to the Unseen Stories photo exhibit and Radio Mitchell art installation.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, architecture lover, arts supporter, or simply looking for a family-friendly outing, Connecticut Open House at The Garde offers a rare opportunity to experience the theater from a new perspective. The day concludes with a special evening comedy performance featuring Mike Hanley in the Oasis Room, offering visitors the option to cap off the festivities with a ticketed show.
