Farmers’ markets are buzzing with locally grown and made items, gardens are overflowing with blooms, and flower, food, and maker-inspired events are sprouting up all over the place. Whether you’re in search of that special bouquet, fresh veggies, or just an excuse to spend a day outside, this weekend is full of chances to enjoy what the season has to offer.
The following events are just a few ways to celebrate local creativity, beauty, and community this early summer along the shoreline.
Artists’ Cooperative Gallery of Westerly presents Art in Bloom
Friday, June 5 | 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Art in Bloom is a one-month-long exhibition of original art and floral arrangements created by the Ocean Community YMCA Garden Club. Enjoy the opening reception by meeting artists Kristie Foss and Karen Piazza and strolling through rooms full of color. From paintings and pottery to polymer clay sculptures, quilts, and blooms inspired by Mother Nature’s seasons, you’ll enjoy seeing the beauty that these talented individuals create.
Stonington Village Farmers Market
Saturday, June 6 | 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
One of the shoreline’s most beloved weekly traditions returns to the Velvet Mill with local produce, baked goods, seafood, cheeses, flowers, prepared foods, artisan products, and live music. More than a shopping destination, the market serves as a gathering place where residents and visitors can experience the food, creativity, and community spirit that define Stonington Village.
Mystic Garden Club Plant Sale
Saturday, June 6 | 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Ready to replant flower beds, vegetable gardens, or containers? Stop by and get ideas at this popular annual plant sale. Annuals, perennials, herbs, shrubs, vegetables, natives, and garden gifts are offered for sale, with many plants donated by gardeners from their own yards. Funds go to the Mystic & Noank Public Library.
Mystic & Noank Library Annual Spring Fair
Saturday, June 6 | 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
In addition to books and community camaraderie, the Spring Fair is a wonderful place for garden enthusiasts to stop. Plant sales are set up among delicious baked goods, White Elephant goodies, food vendors, live entertainment, and a favorite Silent Auction. It’s a Spring Fair tradition that celebrates all that’s quaint and charming about a New England Town Get Together.
Clark Farms Summer Market
Saturday, June 6 | 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Over 75 vendors will be on hand at Clark Farms in Matunuck, RI, offering plants, garden accessories, and unique gifts. Live music, food, and ample shopping will be available all day long. Shop flowers, shrubs, trees, annuals, perennials, and artisan goods at one of the largest seasonal outdoor markets in Southern Rhode Island. Don’t forget to stroll through the gorgeous gardens too – they are blooming and fabulous!
Denison Farmers Market
Sunday, June 7 | 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
In its 22nd season, the Denison Farmers Market brings customers to local farmers, food producers, and artisans. You’ll find fresh fruits and vegetables, specialty foods, and products made in Connecticut. This is a great way to spend your Sunday afternoon shopping local and enjoying Mystic.
Summer is in full swing, and these events are a nice reminder that some of the best parts of summer take place right in our own backyard.
