Event Description
Bird and Learn invites nature lovers to explore the birds and coastal habitats of Napatree Point Conservation Area in Watch Hill. Hosted by The Watch Hill Conservancy, this free guided outing welcomes everyone from first-time birdwatchers to experienced birders who enjoy sharing what they know.
The program follows a roughly two-mile route through one of Rhode Island’s most important coastal bird habitats. Along the way, participants can watch for birds, learn about their behavior, and discover what makes this stretch of shoreline such a valuable place for wildlife.
Discover the Birds of Napatree Point
Napatree Point is recognized as a Globally Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society. Its coastal setting provides opportunities to observe birds in a landscape shaped by the Atlantic Ocean and Little Narragansett Bay.
The walk encourages participants to look closely at the birds they encounter and share observations with others. Rather than requiring expert knowledge, the program emphasizes curiosity, learning, and appreciation for the natural world.
Beginners Are Welcome
You don’t need to know the difference between a sandpiper and a plover to participate.
The Watch Hill Conservancy welcomes newcomers as well as experienced birders. Participants can ask questions, compare sightings, and learn from one another during the outing.
A limited number of binoculars will be available, although bringing your own is a good idea if you have them.
The program is open to ages 10 and older.
A Coastal Walk Worth Taking
The outing lasts approximately 90 minutes and covers about two miles, so participants should be prepared for an extended walk outdoors.
The schedule is designed to allow participants to use the free parking available along Bay Street. Visitors should follow posted parking restrictions and arrive with enough time to reach the meeting area.
Rain will cancel the program, and registered participants will receive cancellation notices by email.
Bird and Learn is offered free of charge by The Watch Hill Conservancy. Advance registration is available through Eventbrite.
