Niantic Artisan & Vintage Market Turns Downtown Into a Village-Wide Treasure Hunt

Niantic Artisan and Vintage Market Turns Downtown Into a Village-Wide Treasure Hunt

Niantic Artisan & Vintage Market Turns Downtown Into a Village-Wide Treasure Hunt Oct. 3, spreading visiting vendors, vintage finds, handmade goods, food trucks, and even a chainsaw demonstration across downtown Niantic rather than containing everything inside a single fairground.

The market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with vendors setting up in several locations throughout the village and along the Main Street shopping district. Instead of walking rows of identical tents in one field, visitors can move through downtown, browse temporary vendors and duck into Niantic’s existing shops along the way.

The organizers describe the mix as local artisans, vintage finds, handcrafted and bespoke goods, and antique treasures, with participating downtown businesses also planning store specials for the day.

And judging from the response to the event on Facebook, plenty of people have already put it on their Saturday plans: more than 1,000 people have indicated interest in the event.

The Market Spreads Across Downtown

This isn’t a market with one entrance or a single central vendor area.

Niantic Main Street describes it as village-wide, with vendors occupying several areas around downtown. At least one participating artisan, Connecticut ceramic artist JQ Clay, says vendors will line the Main Street strip and that her booth will be positioned in front of Grace.

Wilks Works, the Niantic shop specializing in handmade candles, room sprays and car diffusers, is also promoting the market as a town-wide event.

That decentralized layout is really the point.

Niantic already has an unusually walkable collection of independent stores, restaurants and waterfront spaces packed into its downtown. The Artisan & Vintage Market essentially adds another layer of temporary shops to the existing ones for six hours.

Vintage Finds, Handmade Goods and Antique Treasures

There isn’t a complete 2026 vendor roster available, so anyone looking for a booth-by-booth preview is out of luck.

What organizers have announced is deliberately broad: vintage pieces, antiques, handmade items, artisan goods and one-of-a-kind finds, with visiting vendors joining the permanent downtown businesses.

That makes this less of a conventional craft fair and more of a browse-until-something-stops-you kind of market.

The event has been part of Niantic Main Street’s calendar for several years. Earlier editions followed the same village-wide concept, mixing artists and artisans with vintage goods, downtown shopping, food and other attractions.

The market itself was spearheaded by longtime Niantic Main Street volunteer and board member Sue Kumro, whose work with the downtown organization has included several of its community events.

Four Food Trucks Are Coming to Main Street

Organizers have now filled in one of the biggest blanks in the original event listing: food.

Saturday’s announced lineup includes Beach Buns, Curb Your Appetite, Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee of Mystic and Kona Ice.

That gives visitors options for grabbing something while working their way through the market instead of treating shopping and lunch as separate stops.

Other food vendors may be present around town, but those are the four mobile vendors specifically announced by Niantic Main Street for Saturday.

There’s a Chainsaw Demonstration at Scheer Park

The day’s strangest attraction may also be one of the more interesting reasons to wander beyond the vendor tables.

Organizers have announced a chainsaw demonstration at Scheer Park.

No detailed demonstration schedule has been published, so this isn’t something we’d recommend planning an arrival time around. But it adds another stop to what is already intended to be a walk-around-the-village event.

Scheer Park sits along Main Street and is also closely connected to another increasingly recognizable Niantic tradition.

You Can Get an Early Start on the Buoy Trees

Niantic Main Street will have a tent at the Old Police Station, where visitors can purchase a buoy for the organization’s annual Niantic Buoy Trees.

The holiday installation transforms Scheer Park into what the organization calls a little tree farm, with tree-shaped structures covered in hundreds of individually decorated buoys contributed by people, organizations and businesses from around the region.

This year’s Buoys by the Bay display is scheduled to open Nov. 20 and remain up into January.

Saturday’s market therefore provides an early opportunity to pick up a buoy and become part of the display before the holiday season arrives.

It’s a Market Designed Around Niantic Itself

That’s probably the most useful way to approach this event.

There isn’t a published list of 75 vendors to methodically check off, a stage schedule to follow or a single fairground to navigate. The attraction is the combination of the market and downtown Niantic.

Start walking. Check the visiting vendors. Go through the stores. Stop for food or coffee. Wander toward Scheer Park. Pick up a buoy. See what somebody dragged out of an antique collection or what a local maker brought to sell.

The lack of a complete vendor roster makes it difficult to predict exactly what will be waiting from block to block.

For a vintage market, that unpredictability may not be entirely a disadvantage.
