LoVeSeXy (Prince Tribute) at Ocean Beach Park brings the music of Prince to the New London waterfront on Friday, August 7, as part of the park’s Summer Concert Series on the Boardwalk. The Boston-based tribute band performs two sets beginning at the earlier 7 p.m. start time, filling the boardwalk with songs from across Prince’s career.
LoVeSeXy isn’t built around simply looking like Prince. The six-piece band puts its attention on recreating the music, with four lead vocalists, experienced musicians, and arrangements designed to capture the sound and energy of the original recordings. About LoVeSeXy
Based in Boston, LoVeSeXy is a New England Prince tribute band led by founding member and frontman Kobie Ali. A longtime Prince fan and experienced performer, Ali is joined by guitarist and vocalist Jodee Frawlee and a lineup of veteran New England musicians.
The group features four lead singers, allowing it to explore not only Prince’s catalog but music associated with the larger Minneapolis sound he helped create.
Rather than presenting a straight impersonation, LoVeSeXy emphasizes the vocals, musicianship, arrangements, and audience connection that defined Prince’s live performances.
The band has performed at venues throughout the Northeast, including Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mohegan Sun, House of Blues Boston, the Borgata in Atlantic City, Blue Ocean Music Hall, and previous appearances at Ocean Beach Park.
The Music of Prince
Prince left behind an enormous catalog, giving LoVeSeXy plenty of territory to cover.
Audiences can expect major songs including “Let’s Go Crazy,” “1999,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Purple Rain.” The band also reaches deeper into the catalog with fan favorites such as “Uptown,” “17 Days,” “Gett Off,” “Adore,” and “America.”
The show extends beyond Prince’s own recordings. LoVeSeXy also performs music connected to artists in his orbit, including Sheila E. and Morris Day & The Time.
That mix makes the concert work on two levels: casual listeners get the songs they came to hear, while serious Prince fans can recognize material that doesn’t always make it into a typical tribute show.
