Jim Belushi featuring Jami Belushi and the James Montgomery Band at Paddy’s brings a sprawling blues and rock lineup to Misquamicut on Saturday, August 15, for a three-hour beachfront show led by an entertainer whose connection to the blues runs much deeper than his film and television career. Belushi will be joined by his daughter, Nashville singer-songwriter Jami Belushi, veteran bluesman James Montgomery, and musicians with ties to Aerosmith, the J. Geils Band, and the original Blues Brothers.
Most people know Jim Belushi from Saturday Night Live, According to Jim, and a film career stretching from About Last Night and K-9 to The Principal. But music has run alongside acting for decades. Belushi has fronted his own rhythm-and-blues band, The Sacred Hearts, and eventually joined Dan Aykroyd in carrying the Blues Brothers tradition forward after the death of his older brother John. At Paddy’s, that history meets another generation. Jami Belushi has begun building her own career as a singer-songwriter, making her major live debut before roughly 25,000 people at Chicago’s Windy City Smokeout in 2025. Her father joined her onstage that day, followed by Aykroyd for a Blues Brothers performance. Jim Belushi and the Blues
Jim Belushi’s musical career wasn’t simply an extension of playing a musician on television.
He spent years performing as frontman of The Sacred Hearts, a rhythm-and-blues band associated with the House of Blues venues. With Belushi singing and playing harmonica, the group performed dozens of dates a year at clubs, casinos, private events, and festivals. (Jim Belushi)
His connection to the Blues Brothers came naturally, although not immediately. The original duo of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd turned their love of blues and soul into something far larger than an SNL sketch, recording albums, touring, and eventually making the 1980 movie The Blues Brothers.
Years after John’s death in 1982, Aykroyd encouraged Jim to become part of the Blues Brothers performances. Jim initially resisted stepping into territory so closely associated with his brother, but ultimately embraced it. He has now performed with Aykroyd as a Blues Brother for more than 25 years. Their performances have included some enormous stages. Belushi and Aykroyd opened for the Rolling Stones at Soldier Field in 2005 and performed at Toronto’s massive SARS benefit concert, which drew hundreds of thousands of people.
So when Belushi steps onto the stage at Paddy’s, he’s not an actor making a novelty appearance with a blues band. He’s been playing this music for decades.
Jami Belushi
Jami Belushi is taking a different path into the family business.
The singer-songwriter has been developing a country-oriented career in Nashville and released her debut single, “Sweetheart,” in 2025. That summer she made her large-scale concert debut at Chicago’s Windy City Smokeout country music festival. (People.com)
Her father joined her during the performance, but there was another surprise waiting backstage: Dan Aykroyd. Together they performed the Blues Brothers staple “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love,” connecting Jami’s first major concert with a musical tradition stretching back to her uncle John’s performances nearly half a century earlier.
The Paddy’s appearance puts Jami alongside her father again, but as a billed performer rather than a surprise guest.
James Montgomery and an All-Star Band
Veteran blues singer and harmonica player James Montgomery anchors the band for the Misquamicut performance.
Montgomery has spent decades in the New England blues scene, both leading his own band and performing with prominent rock and blues musicians. For this show, the lineup extends well beyond Montgomery’s regular group.
Scheduled performers include Neil Vitullo, a Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame guitarist; David Hull, whose career includes the Joe Perry Project; drummer Marty Richards, who has performed with members of the J. Geils Band; guitarist George McCann; Todd Farland; and Sarah Hale Folger of Me and the Boys.
Boston Celtics Chairman Wyc Grousbeck is also billed as a special guest.
With that many musicians sharing the stage, the evening is set up more like an all-star blues revue than a conventional concert with one singer and a backing band.
Blues on Misquamicut Beach
The setting should make this one particularly unusual.
Paddy’s Beach Restaurant and Beach Bar sits directly on Misquamicut Beach, putting the performance along the Atlantic shoreline rather than inside a traditional theater or club.
The music begins at 8 p.m. and is scheduled to run until 11 p.m.
Given the combination of Belushi, Montgomery, Jami Belushi, and a large group of veteran musicians, audiences should expect a collaborative show where the lineup can shift as different performers step forward.
