Hygienic Indie Music Fest
Hygienic Indie Music Fest returns to Hygienic Art in downtown New London on Saturday, August 8, celebrating Connecticut’s independent music scene with an evening of live performances from emerging artists and longtime local favorites. Now in its fourth year, the festival continues to honor the city’s rich alternative music history while introducing audiences to the next generation of regional talent.
Inspired by the legendary WCNI New Music Fest concerts of the 1980s, the event pays tribute to a period when New London’s waterfront became a gathering place for fans of alternative rock and independent music. The original festivals helped shape the area’s music culture, and today’s Indie Music Fest carries that spirit forward with a lineup that blends established local acts and rising performers.
Held in Hygienic Art’s Art Park, the festival offers an intimate outdoor setting where music lovers can discover new bands, reconnect with familiar favorites, and experience one of southeastern Connecticut’s signature summer music events.
A Festival Inspired by New London’s Music History
The Hygienic Indie Music Fest traces its roots to the WCNI New Music Fest, a popular concert series organized by Connecticut College’s radio station during the 1980s. Those waterfront performances became a defining part of New London’s alternative music scene, drawing hundreds of fans and showcasing original music long before indie rock became mainstream.
Today’s festival celebrates that legacy while highlighting the creativity that continues to thrive in the region.
