Historic Stonington Pie Eating Contest
Historic Stonington Pie Eating Contest returns to Wadawanuck Square on Saturday, August 1, at 12:00 p.m., inviting contestants and spectators alike to celebrate one of America’s most delicious traditions. Held during the 74th Annual COMO Village Fair as part of Stonington’s America 250 celebration, the friendly competition transforms the west side of the square into a lively gathering where cheers, laughter, and a little bit of whipped cream are guaranteed.
The contest welcomes participants of all ages with three divisions: children ages 12 and under, teens ages 13 to 18, and adults 19 and older. Younger competitors tackle a whipped cream pie without a crust, while teens and adults race to finish individual apple pies. The challenge is simple but far from easy: contestants must keep their hands behind their backs while eating, and the first person to finish their pie claims victory and plenty of bragging rights.
Even if you don’t plan to compete, the Pie Eating Contest is one of the Village Fair’s most entertaining attractions. Friends, family members, and curious fairgoers line the square to cheer on contestants as they tackle the messy challenge, making it one of the day’s biggest crowd-pleasers. Space is limited to just eight contestants in each age division and participation is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Because the pies contain ingredients that may trigger allergies, organizers note they are unable to accommodate food allergies.
