Eclectic Electric, The Forest Room and The Kosmographers Turn Oasis Into a Three-Genre Experiment

Eclectic Electric The Forest Room and The Kosmographers Turn Oasis Into a Three-Genre Experiment

Eclectic Electric, The Forest Room and The Kosmographers Turn Oasis Into a Three-Genre Experiment Saturday, Sept. 26, when three very different corners of New England’s independent music scene share the stage at the Oasis Pub in New London.

Calling this an indie-rock show doesn’t quite explain it.

The night moves from the jazz of a Connecticut guitar trio to a one-man collision of electronic beats, live guitar and custom lighting before reaching the bass-heavy psychedelic rock of a Providence power trio.

Oasis describes the combination as moving through sophisticated jazz grooves, hypnotic electronic beats and heavy psychedelic rock.

In other words, don’t expect three bands that sound alike.

Eclectic Electric Brings the Heavy End of the Night

Providence-based Eclectic Electric has been working the Southern New England underground since 2015.

The trio features Thomas McCorry on vocals and bass, Alyson Hammond on drums and Andrew Labossiere on guitar, with a sound built around an unusually prominent bass presence and a mix of rock, soul and psychedelia.

There are pieces of different generations in it.

The warmth and groove of 1960s and ’70s rock sit alongside the heavier textures of ’90s alternative and stoner rock. Rhode Island music writer Rob Duguay has described the band as bass-driven rock that incorporates heavy metal, rhythmic elements and alternative-rock influences.

Their 2024 single Little Black Cat provides a good example.

McCorry said the band approached it with the idea of capturing something in the territory of ZZ Top or Cream. The result is less retro imitation than evidence of where Eclectic Electric’s musical vocabulary comes from.

The trio has become a regular presence around Providence’s independent music rooms and has also played the Particle Accelerator Music Festival. In 2025, Eclectic Electric was nominated in the Rhode Island Music Awards’ alternative-rock category.

Saturday brings them back to a room they already know. Oasis lists Eclectic Electric among the regional acts that have become regular performers at the New London club.

The Forest Room Calls It “Positive Gloom”

Then there’s The Forest Room, and this is where the bill takes a sharp turn.

The Plainville, Connecticut project is a one-man band, combining live acoustic and electric guitar with electronic rhythms, progressive beats and trip-hop atmosphere.

The Forest Room has a name for the resulting sound: “positive gloom.”

It’s a pretty effective description.

Instead of trying to reproduce the sound of a conventional band alone onstage, the project treats electronics as part of the instrumentation. Guitar moves against programmed and electronic rhythms, creating music that can be dark and atmospheric without becoming static.

The visual presentation is part of it, too.

The Forest Room performs with custom-built vertical light towers, surrounding the solo setup with changing light and giving the performance a scale that wouldn’t necessarily be expected from one musician.

The project has been active around independent venues throughout New England and the Northeast, taking what is essentially a self-contained audio-visual performance into rooms normally occupied by full bands.

At Oasis, that means the stage can go from a traditional jazz trio to one person surrounded by guitars, electronics and light.

And then change completely again.

The Kosmographers Start From Jazz

Connecticut’s The Kosmographers occupy another part of the musical map.

The trio features Scott Drouin on guitar, Fred Fagan on bass and Glen Metcalfe on drums, working in a jazz format built around the interaction between three musicians rather than a large arrangement.

Oasis characterizes their sound as sophisticated and smooth, but placing a jazz trio on this particular bill makes things more interesting than simply booking them for a conventional jazz night.

Improvisation is one of the few threads that can connect jazz to the more experimental electronic and psychedelic music surrounding it Saturday.

The vocabulary changes.

The willingness to see where a piece can go doesn’t necessarily have to.

Three Acts That Shouldn’t Necessarily Be on the Same Bill

That’s what makes this night worth noticing.

A lot of three-band shows are variations on a theme. If you like the first band’s style, there’s a good chance the next two are working somewhere nearby.

Saturday’s lineup works differently.

The Kosmographers bring guitar-led jazz.

The Forest Room moves into trip-hop, progressive electronic music and atmospheric guitar.

Eclectic Electric finishes the journey in the heavier territory of psychedelic, alternative and bass-driven rock.

It makes the show less like three separate concerts and more like a progression.

And Oasis is the kind of room where that experiment can work.

A Small Room Built for New London’s Alternative Side

The Oasis Pub at 16 Bank Street has long occupied its own place in New London’s music ecosystem.

It’s a 21+ bar rather than a formal concert hall, with live music sharing the space with the club’s craft beer and drinks program.

That intimacy matters for underground music.

There isn’t much distance between performers and audience, and a band doesn’t need to fill hundreds of seats before it makes sense to put it onstage. Rooms like Oasis give regional musicians somewhere to experiment, build an audience and share bills with acts that don’t necessarily fit neatly into the same genre.

Saturday night may be a particularly good demonstration of why that matters.

You could arrive for jazz and leave having discovered a one-man electronic project.

You could show up for psychedelic rock and hear a guitar trio you wouldn’t otherwise encounter.

Or you could simply let three very different approaches to making music take over the same small stage.

The show begins at 9 p.m.
