“Art Is in the Air” – Noank CT Home & Garden Tour
Brush up on your gardening gloves and dust off your walking shoes this summer. “Art is in the Air” – A Noank, CT Home & Garden Tour gives you the opportunity to spend an afternoon touring one of Connecticut’s most charming coastal villages AND benefit an organization near and dear to our hearts—the Noank Historical Society. June 27 will be spent touring privately owned homes and gardens on a self-guided walking tour. Participating homes and gardens have been selected for their architectural significance and beautifully landscaped grounds. What better place to paint than out in the open? Many artists will be on hand painting the village’s scenic landscapes and historic homes while visitors tour.
While Noank may be best known as a fishing village and a center for boatbuilding, it was also a quietly influential art colony at the turn of the twentieth century. Henry Ward Ranger, Robert Brackman, Lars Thorsen and Reynolds Beal are just a few of the artists who vacationed or settled in Noank and found endless inspiration in waterfront views, historic homes, farms and the working harbor. The Tour celebrates not only Noank’s artistic history, but the varied architectural styles of homes built by sailors who traveled to distant ports and brought back with them ideas and creative influences from around the globe.
There will be something for art enthusiasts, garden aficionados, history buffs, and anyone who loves to discover unique spots along the CT shoreline. From gardens to artists painting “en plein air” to local history, you will not want to miss this special opportunity to step back in time and experience one of SE Connecticut’s treasured coastal villages.
