NOW That’s What I Call Opera
NOW That’s What I Call Opera comes to the Oasis Room at Garde Arts Center on Friday, July 31, at 7:30 p.m., bringing together some of the most beloved music ever composed for the operatic stage. Presented by Connecticut Lyric Opera, the concert celebrates opera’s greatest hits with unforgettable arias, duets, and ensemble performances by acclaimed professional singers and rising young artists.
Inspired by the popular NOW That’s What I Call Music! compilation albums, the program features timeless masterpieces by Puccini, Verdi, Mozart, and other legendary composers. Audiences will hear iconic selections including “Nessun dorma” from Turandot, “Vissi d’arte” from Tosca, and the dazzling Queen of the Night aria, “Der Hölle Rache,” from The Magic Flute. Additional highlights include music from La Bohème, Carmen, Così fan tutte, La Traviata, and Don Giovanni, offering an evening that showcases the emotional power, vocal virtuosity, and dramatic beauty that have made opera endure for centuries.
The concert features longtime Connecticut Lyric Opera performers Jūratė Švedaitė, soprano; Steven Fredericks, bass; and Daniel Juárez, tenor, alongside emerging artists mentored through the company’s educational programs. The performance also marks the first production under Connecticut Lyric Opera’s new leadership, with Anastasia Rege serving as Artistic Director and Kelly Whitesell as General Director. Now entering its 22nd season, Connecticut Lyric Opera remains the state’s only full-season professional opera company, bringing world-class productions and performances to audiences throughout Connecticut.
