Saturday’s forecast calls for the chance of showers later in the day, but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying one of southeastern Connecticut’s biggest summer festivals. In fact, it may be the perfect excuse to arrive early and take advantage of everything Celebrate East Lyme has to offer before the evening weather becomes a factor.
From 1 to 10 p.m., nearly a mile of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue transforms into a lively festival featuring more than 160 vendors, live music, food, carnival rides, community organizations, and family activities. Spend the afternoon browsing local artisans, cheering on young entrepreneurs at the Kids Market, exploring the Children’s Area, or heading to Hole in the Wall Beach for the annual Sandcastle Competition. St. John’s Summer Carnival and multiple entertainment stages keep the celebration going throughout the day, making it easy to fill an afternoon before the evening festivities begin.
If the weather cooperates, stick around for the fireworks display over Niantic Bay shortly after 9 p.m., designed by East Lyme’s own Tom Quinn and sponsored by Dominion Energy–Millstone Power Station. But even if passing showers move through later in the evening, arriving early means you’ll still experience the heart of one of the shoreline’s signature summer traditions.
