Event Description
Napatree Point Conservation Area Beach Cleanup with ORCA gives Halloween a different kind of purpose this year. On Saturday, October 31, volunteers are invited to spend two hours helping clean one of Rhode Island’s most beautiful stretches of coastline, with Halloween costumes encouraged.
Organized by Ocean Recovery Community Alliance (ORCA) and The Watch Hill Conservancy, the free event runs from 10 a.m. to noon at Napatree Point in Watch Hill. All cleanup supplies will be provided, so participants can concentrate on collecting litter and helping care for the shoreline.
A Halloween Morning With a Purpose
Halloween usually brings thoughts of candy, costumes, and spooky celebrations. This cleanup adds something else to the holiday: an opportunity to make a difference outdoors.
Volunteers will help remove litter from Napatree Point Conservation Area, a scenic barrier beach surrounded by the waters of Little Narragansett Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
It’s a chance to enjoy the coastal scenery while doing something useful for the environment.
And because costumes are encouraged, participants might find themselves picking up litter alongside a witch, superhero, or skeleton.
Helping Protect a Special Stretch of Coastline
Napatree Point is a treasured natural area in Watch Hill, known for its sandy shoreline, dunes, coastal habitats, and birdlife.
Removing discarded trash helps keep the beach cleaner for visitors and reduces the chance that litter will harm wildlife or wash into surrounding waters.
The cleanup is also an opportunity to spend time outside and connect with others who care about preserving the area’s natural beauty.
Everything You Need Is Provided
ORCA and The Watch Hill Conservancy will supply the cleanup materials, and participation is free.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon, giving volunteers the rest of Halloween Saturday to enjoy other activities.
Late October can bring chilly breezes along the shoreline, so comfortable footwear and warm layers are sensible choices. Anyone planning to wear a Halloween costume should choose something suitable for walking and bending on the beach.
The organizer’s registration page lists 89–93 Bay Street in Westerly, while the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce identifies the event location as Fort Road. Participants should check their registration information for the precise meeting point.
Whether you come in costume or ordinary outdoor clothes, the goal is the same: leave Napatree Point a little cleaner than you found it.
