Event Description
Dock 9 Invites You to a Night of Magic at the Mill, transforming a corner of Stonington’s historic Velvet Mill into a world of potions, tarot readings, music, and Halloween costumes on Friday, October 30.
Beginning at 8 p.m., Dock 9 will host an evening inspired by the mysterious and magical, complete with a live DJ, unlimited photo booths, a potion-making station, and a poet bringing a little enchantment to the festivities.
A three-category costume contest will give guests another reason to arrive dressed for the occasion, with prizes recognizing everything from imaginative creations to laugh-out-loud disguises.
It’s a Halloween party with a playful twist, inviting guests to step away from the ordinary and spend an evening exploring a world of magic.
Potions, Tarot, and a Little Halloween Mystery
The evening’s activities lean into the magical side of Halloween.
Guests will be able to explore tarot card readings, adding a little mystery and curiosity to the celebration.
A potion-making station will offer another themed experience, while a spellbinding poet will bring words and imagination into the mix.
Organizers have also announced unlimited photo booths, giving guests plenty of opportunities to capture their costumes and share the evening with friends.
Whether you’re dressed as a wizard, witch, sorcerer, or something entirely different, the photo booths promise to be a popular stop throughout the night.
The event announcement also teases additional surprises, leaving a little mystery surrounding what else guests might discover.
DJ Ryze Above Brings the Music
No Halloween celebration would be complete without a soundtrack.
DJ Ryze Above will provide live music for the evening, helping create the party atmosphere as guests mingle, explore the activities, and show off their costumes.
The combination of music, themed experiences, and photo opportunities gives guests several ways to enjoy the night.
Some may come for the dancing, others for the tarot readings or costume contest, and plenty will likely want to try a little of everything.
Three Ways to Win the Costume Contest
Costumes are a major part of Dock 9’s Halloween plans, with three categories announced for the evening.
Best Overall will recognize a standout costume, while Most Magical/Creative invites guests to embrace imagination and originality.
The third category, Best Parody/Funniest, gives humorous costumes a chance to shine.
That leaves plenty of room for different approaches, from elaborate fantasy characters to clever pop culture references and homemade costumes designed to get a laugh.
Specific judging times, prizes, and contest rules have not yet been announced.
Halloween Inside the Historic Velvet Mill
Dock 9 is located inside The Velvet Mill at 22 Bayview Avenue in Stonington.
The former textile mill has become a gathering place for independent businesses, artists, and creative spaces, making it an atmospheric setting for a Halloween celebration.
Its industrial character provides an interesting contrast to the magical theme, with the event bringing fantasy-inspired entertainment into a historic New England mill.
The Dock 9 party also takes place on the same evening as The Velvet Mill’s broader Halloween celebration, giving visitors another reason to explore the property.
Guests should note that Dock 9’s Night of Magic is a separately announced event with its own entertainment and costume contest.
