Historic Haunts of New London Reveals Ghost Stories Along the Citys Oldest Streets
Historic Haunts of New London Reveals Ghost Stories Along the City’s Oldest Streets on Friday, October 9, inviting visitors to explore the Whaling City’s mysterious past during a 90-minute evening walking tour. Beginning at 7 p.m. outside New London Union Station, the guided experience combines documented local history with stories of unexplained encounters and paranormal activity.

Presented by Uncovering New London, the tour explores the lives of people who shaped the city and the legends suggesting some of them may never have left. Along the way, participants will hear accounts associated with historic buildings, learn about former residents and consider whether the city’s past might still be present in unexpected ways.

Where New London’s History Meets the Supernatural

New London has a history stretching back to the 17th century, with generations of sailors, merchants, soldiers and residents leaving their mark on the waterfront community. Its colonial buildings, maritime landmarks and centuries-old streets provide a compelling setting for stories about mysterious sightings and unexplained events.

The Historic Haunts tour draws on that history, examining reported paranormal experiences alongside historical research. Rather than presenting ghost stories as established facts, the experience invites participants to consider the evidence, the legends and the circumstances that may have inspired them.

The approach gives the evening a different character from a conventional haunted attraction. There are no advertised jump scares or costumed monsters. Instead, the atmosphere comes from walking through a historic city after dark while hearing stories about the people who once lived and worked there.

A Different Way to Experience the Whaling City

The tour begins at New London Union Station, a landmark transportation building designed by renowned architect Henry Hobson Richardson and completed in 1887. From there, participants explore the downtown streets where the city’s maritime and commercial history remains visible in its architecture.

Uncovering New London offers a variety of historically themed walking tours, including programs exploring the Revolutionary War, local crime and punishment, and lesser-known stories from the city’s past.

The Historic Haunts experience is especially suited to the Halloween season, combining local history with the intrigue of unexplained phenomena. Whether visitors believe in ghosts or simply enjoy discovering the stories behind old buildings, the evening offers a different perspective on familiar downtown surroundings.

Additional Historic Haunts tours are scheduled for October 16 and 23, both beginning at 6 p.m.
