Wicked Peach Brings 30 Years of Rock Favorites Back to the Wolf Den
Wicked Peach Brings 30 Years of Rock Favorites Back to the Wolf Den Sunday, Sept. 27, as one of southeastern New England’s longest-running cover bands returns to Mohegan Sun for a free 7 p.m. show.
The band has spent three decades building its reputation around a straightforward formula: take recognizable rock and pop-rock songs, play them with the energy of a club band rather than a tribute act, and keep the set moving.
That approach has made Wicked Peach a familiar name throughout southeastern Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts and a recurring presence on the Wolf Den stage.
Thirty Years of Wicked Peach
Wicked Peach dates its beginning to 1996, putting the band at its 30-year mark in 2026.
Rather than dedicating itself to one artist or period, the group has built a repertoire across decades of rock, alternative and pop-rock. That gives a Wicked Peach show the feel of a live rock playlist, with the set capable of moving between eras instead of staying locked into one sound.
The current lineup includes Ernie Lewis on lead vocals and guitar, Dan Watson on lead guitar and vocals, Corey Carter on guitar, Stan Smith on bass and Jonathan Souza on drums.
Mohegan Sun itself has repeatedly described Wicked Peach as a staple of the southeastern New England music scene, and the relationship between the band and the casino stretches across years of Wolf Den appearances.
In 2024, Wicked Peach was among the acts Mohegan Sun chose for the Wolf Den’s late-night concert experiment, playing back-to-back 8 and 10:30 p.m. performances. The band returned to the venue during the 2026 summer season as well.
Sunday’s show puts them back in the room for another free headlining set.
A Cover Band Without the Tribute-Band Rules
The difference between Wicked Peach and a traditional tribute band is range.
A tribute act has a catalog and identity already chosen for it. Wicked Peach can follow whatever works with the room.
The band describes itself as playing favorite rock, pop-rock and rock hits, and its shows are built around songs audiences are likely to recognize quickly.
That flexibility is particularly useful at a casino venue.
A Wolf Den audience can include dedicated fans who arrived specifically for the band alongside people who discovered there was a free concert happening while walking through Casino of the Earth.
A familiar opening riff can turn the second group into the first remarkably quickly.
The Wolf Den Puts the Band in the Middle of the Casino
The Wolf Den remains one of Mohegan Sun’s unusual entertainment spaces because it isn’t tucked away in a conventional theater.
It’s located directly inside the Casino of the Earth, surrounded by the activity of the casino floor. Mohegan Sun equips the venue with full beverage service and a state-of-the-art sound system while keeping performances free.
That combination has allowed the Wolf Den to host national touring artists alongside the regional bands that repeatedly fill the room.
And Wicked Peach belongs firmly in the latter category.
The band has played the venue often enough that a return to the Wolf Den feels less like an isolated booking and more like an ongoing relationship between a regional band and one of the region’s best-known stages.
Free Doesn’t Mean Guaranteed
There is one important catch to Wolf Den shows: a ticket isn’t what gets you inside.
Admission is free, but seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Guests may begin lining up no earlier than three hours before showtime. One person can hold up to four places in line, but Mohegan Sun requires everyone to be physically present when seats are distributed.
The Wolf Den is also restricted to guests 21 and older and is a non-smoking venue.
Sunday performances normally begin earlier than the Wolf Den’s Thursday-through-Saturday shows, so this one starts at 7 p.m.
For Wicked Peach, that’s three decades of southeastern New England bar rooms, festivals, clubs and casino stages distilled into another Sunday night at a venue the band knows well.
No elaborate tribute concept required.
Just familiar songs, electric guitars and a free place to hear them played loud.
