Comedy Roast at the Comix Roadhouse Friday, September 4, when Roast Battle League CT presents Roast at the Roadhouse.
The 10 p.m. show replaces the usual stand-up format with head-to-head comedy battles. Instead of comics telling jokes about their own lives, each competitor comes armed with material written specifically to tear apart the person standing across from them.
Ten comedians. Five matchups. Three judges.
And presumably very few hurt feelings… at least officially.
Five Head-to-Head Battles
The night’s card features five comedy matchups:

Victoria Caira vs. Pat McKinstry
Emily Siero vs. Kevin Boyd
Nick Kochis vs. Dillon Rakowski
Ali vs. Jeff Poirier
Sarah Carroll vs. Dustin Fiore
Brittany Roarge vs. Zaire Hunt
Actually, that’s seven battles, giving the night an even larger lineup than the promotional description initially suggests.
Each pairing puts two comedians directly against one another, with insults, personal jokes and prepared attacks replacing a conventional stand-up set.
What Is a Roast Battle?
Roast comedy has always depended on a strange agreement.
Say something absolutely terrible about another person.
Make it funny enough, and everybody laughs.
Roast battles turn that idea into a competition. Two comedians alternate jokes aimed directly at each other, often digging into appearance, personality, career, relationships or anything else they can turn into a punchline.
The point isn’t simply to be mean.
Anyone can insult somebody.
The skill is constructing an insult so unexpected, specific and well-written that even the person being roasted has to laugh.
The Judges Decide Who Survives
Three judges will oversee the battles at Comix Roadhouse.
The announced panel includes Charity Gregory, Dan Wilkes and Mike Eaton.
Cliff Mula is serving as host, while Ish Gupta is listed as the show’s booker.
Their job is to keep seven battles moving while deciding which comics land the hardest shots.
And unlike an ordinary stand-up show, somebody gets to win.
Roast Battle League Comes to Uncasville
Friday’s show is presented by Roast Battle League CT in partnership with Comix Roadhouse.
Roast Battle League is built around competitive insult comedy, with comedians facing one another in organized battles rather than performing unrelated sets.
That changes the energy in the room.
The person waiting for you to finish a joke isn’t another comic waiting politely for their turn.
They’re listening.
Because they’re about to answer.
Late Night at Comix Roadhouse
Comix Roadhouse combines a comedy club with a restaurant, bar and country-themed entertainment venue inside Mohegan Sun.
The September 4 roast begins at 10 p.m., making this a late-night show rather than an early-evening comedy performance.
Tickets start at $15 for general admission, with $25 VIP seating and $35 booth seating.
Tickets are available online and will also be available at the door.
And with seven pairs of comics spending the night trying to find each other’s weakest spots, sitting close to the stage may come with its own occupational hazard.
Just don’t make eye contact.
