Moonlight Social at Stone Acres Farm is an evening gathering under the Sturgeon Moon on Thursday, August 27, bringing together live music, bonfires, dancing, local food and drinks, artisan vendors, and wellness experiences beneath the open sky.
Presented by 85th Day Food Community and 2Primo, the all-ages event is designed less like a traditional concert or festival and more like a summer night where guests can choose their own pace.
Dance to the music. Wander the farm. Gather around a bonfire. Try a meditation or sound healing session. Or bring a blanket, settle into the grass with friends, and watch the moon rise.
Under the Sturgeon Moon
The timing gives Moonlight Social a natural centerpiece.
August’s full moon is traditionally known as the Sturgeon Moon, a name associated with the large freshwater fish that were historically abundant and easier to catch during this part of the summer.
At Stone Acres Farm, the moon becomes part of the event itself.
Moonlight Social begins as the summer evening starts changing. Daylight fades across the farm, fires begin glowing and the full moon rises into a night built around gathering outdoors.
It’s a simple idea, but the setting does a lot of the work.
A Night Without Much of a Schedule
Moonlight Social isn’t asking everyone to stand in front of one stage for the entire evening.
Live music and dancing are part of the night, but so are the spaces between them.
Guests can explore artisan vendors, find something to eat or drink, join a meditation or sound healing experience and spend time around the bonfires.
That freedom is central to the event.
Want to dance? Dance.
Want to sit beside a fire with friends while music carries across the farm? That works, too.
Families are welcome, and children 12 and younger receive free admission. Guests under 18 must attend with an adult.
Local Food at the Center
The involvement of 85th Day Food Community makes food more than an afterthought.
The Mystic-based hospitality group has built its identity around southeastern Connecticut’s food culture, with restaurants and businesses that have included Oyster Club, Engine Room, Port of Call and Stone Acres Farm.
Its work at Stone Acres has particularly emphasized the connection between the farm, the people producing food and the meals eventually placed in front of guests.
Moonlight Social loosens that idea into something more casual.
Rather than sitting down for a formal farm dinner, guests can eat, drink, wander and experience the property as part of the evening.
Alcohol will be available to guests of legal drinking age with valid identification and the required wristband.
Outside food and beverages aren’t permitted.
Stone Acres After Sunset
Stone Acres Farm gives the event a setting that would be difficult to reproduce in a conventional venue.
The historic Stonington property encompasses farmland, gardens and old New England agricultural buildings, creating a landscape that changes as daylight disappears.
During the day, it’s a working landscape.
At night, bonfires and music change the personality of the place.
That’s really the hook here. Moonlight Social isn’t simply putting entertainment on a farm because there happens to be space available. The farm, sunset, fires and full moon are part of the experience.
Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs and find their own place to settle in.
Music, Dancing and Plenty to Explore
Music is at the heart of Moonlight Social, but there’s much more happening across Stone Acres Farm than a traditional night of bands and DJs.
2Primo + Friends lead the musical lineup, with DJ sets from Daisy & Yaro, DaeVassi, Nové Bloc and Brian Carter keeping the music moving throughout the evening. Justine Krystal and Justine Nicole Entertainment add live performances to the mix.
And yes, dancing is very much encouraged. As the sun goes down and the Sturgeon Moon rises, guests can hit the dance floor, gather around the bonfire, explore the artisan vendors, grab fresh local food and drinks, or shift gears completely with the Zen Zone and sound bath experiences.
That variety is really the point. Dance for a while. Wander off for something to eat. Sit around the fire with friends. Try something quieter, then find your way back to the music.
There’s no single way to spend Moonlight Social.
Rain Doesn’t End the Party
Moonlight Social is scheduled as a rain-or-shine event, so guests should dress for the conditions rather than assume questionable weather will cancel the evening.
Pets aren’t permitted, nor are outside food or beverages.
And because this is an outdoor event on a farm, comfortable shoes make considerably more sense than dressing for a night inside a conventional restaurant or theater.
What you should bring is simpler.
A chair or blanket.
Friends or family.
And a little time to stay awhile.
One of Those Last Summer Nights
August 27 lands in that strange final stretch of summer.
The days are already getting shorter. September is less than a week away. School is returning, and the calendar is beginning its slow pivot toward fall.
