Nick Bosse at the Windjammer
Nick Bosse at the Windjammer brings the North Stonington country singer-songwriter to Misquamicut Beach on Sunday, August 16, for three hours of live music overlooking the Atlantic. Bosse performs from 1 to 4 p.m., right in the middle of the Windjammer Surf Bar’s regular summer afternoon music hours.
It’s a natural setting for one of Bosse’s smaller-format shows. Instead of the full stage production of Nick Bosse & The Northern Roots, this Sunday performance puts him at one of the shoreline’s longtime summer music spots, where the patio opens toward the beach and the soundtrack competes with waves rolling in a few yards away.
The timing makes it easy to build the music into a beach day rather than planning an entire evening around a concert. The Windjammer Surf Bar opens at 11 a.m. during its 2026 season, with food and drinks available before and during the afternoon performance.
About Nick Bosse
Bosse is a North Stonington native, award-winning singer-songwriter and Nashville recording artist whose music pulls from classic country, outlaw country, Southern rock and bluegrass.
His influences range from Merle Haggard to Tyler Childers, and that gives his music a noticeably traditional streak. The songs lean toward storytelling, working-class country and the rougher edges of the genre rather than polished country-pop. (CTvisit)
Bosse began playing local cover gigs before forming The Northern Roots with drummer John Spaulding in 2014. The full band grew to include musicians playing lead guitar, fiddle, pedal steel, upright bass, banjo, mandolin and harmonica, giving Bosse a way to move between traditional country, bluegrass and Southern rock. A Familiar Face at the Windjammer
This isn’t Bosse’s first afternoon at the Windjammer.
He performed there as recently as July 12, part of a summer calendar that keeps live musicians rotating through the oceanfront venue.
Sunday’s billing is simply Nick Bosse, rather than Nick Bosse & The Northern Roots, making this a more intimate performance than the full-band show at Preston Ridge Vineyard the night before.
That’s a pretty good two-day snapshot of Bosse’s local career. Saturday night, he’s leading his band at a vineyard. By Sunday afternoon, he’s back near the Rhode Island shoreline playing a beach bar.
Live Music Steps from Misquamicut Beach
The Windjammer has been part of the Misquamicut summer scene for generations.
It’s housed within Atlantic Beach Park, which traces its history to 1921 and remains owned and operated by the Trefes family. Originally called Atlantic Beach Casino, the property developed as a place where families could swim, gather along the boardwalk and spend a summer day beside the ocean.
Today, the Windjammer combines that old beach-park setting with an oceanfront restaurant, bar and live music venue.
Its large patio sits directly beside the Atlantic, with tables, umbrellas and Adirondack chairs outside. During the summer, live music is scheduled on the patio from 1 to 5 p.m., making Bosse’s 1 p.m. start part of a tradition rather than a one-off concert setup.
The indoor Surf Bar adds another 1,000 square feet, including a 30-seat bar, surfing décor and a sound and lighting system used for entertainment throughout the season.
Make It a Beach Afternoon
This is one of those shows where the venue changes the experience.
Arrive earlier and spend some time at Misquamicut. Come in from the beach for lunch. Or skip the sand altogether and grab a spot on the patio for the music.
The Windjammer serves seafood and casual beach food, with New England staples including clam fritters, clam chowder and lobster bisque, along with sandwiches, burgers and other pub fare. There’s a full bar for adults as well.
Families also have Atlantic Beach Park’s arcade nearby, and the Windjammer’s daytime restaurant and patio are family-friendly.
For Bosse, whose songs reach backward toward the country music he grew up admiring, it’s about as informal a concert setting as you can find: Sunday afternoon, guitar in hand, Atlantic Ocean behind him.
