Every year I tell myself I’m just going to the Charlestown Seafood Festival for a lobster roll and maybe a bowl of chowder. It never works out that way. Before long I’m wandering through the artisan booths, stopping to listen to a band, grabbing another bite to eat, and somehow the afternoon turns into evening. Then the fireworks start, and I remember why this has become one of my favorite summer traditions.
The name doesn’t quite do the festival justice. Yes, seafood is the star of the show, but once you’ve had your fill, you’ll quickly discover there’s an entire festival waiting to be explored.
Come Hungry
Seafood lovers will have plenty of choices with more than 55 food vendors serving Rhode Island and New England favorites, including:
- Fresh lobster rolls
- Whole steamed lobster
- Native Rhode Island oysters
- Littleneck clams
- Steamers with drawn butter
- Stuffed quahogs (stuffies)
- Fish & chips
- New England clam chowder
- Shrimp cocktail
- Raw bars
Even if seafood isn’t your thing, you’ll find plenty of festival favorites and sweet treats throughout the grounds.
Stay for the Entertainment
Once lunch is over, the fun is just getting started. Live music fills the main stage all weekend with everything from local favorites to nationally known tribute bands. Meanwhile, the carnival midway, Kid Zone, and arts & crafts marketplace make it easy to spend hours exploring.

Saturday Belongs to the Fireworks
If you’re visiting on Saturday, don’t rush home after dinner. One of the festival’s biggest traditions begins at 9:00 p.m. when fireworks light up the sky above Ninigret Park. It’s the perfect ending to a day spent eating, shopping, and enjoying live music with family and friends.
Come Back Sunday
Sunday offers another reason to return as the annual Car & Bike Show rolls into the festival. Antique classics, custom cars, motorcycles, and another full day of entertainment make the final day every bit as enjoyable as opening weekend.
Why We Keep Coming Back
After more than four decades, the Charlestown Seafood Festival has become far more than a celebration of seafood. It’s a celebration of summer itself. Whether you come for the lobster rolls, your favorite tribute band, the carnival, the crafts, or simply an excuse to spend the day outdoors, chances are you’ll leave the same way I usually do—wondering where the day went and already looking forward to next year.
