Red, White and Blue Independence Day Parade
Red, White and Blue in Sound View Independence Day Parade brings one of Old Lyme’s most cherished Fourth of July traditions back to Sound View on Saturday, July 4. Hosted by the Sound View Beach Association, the hometown parade invites residents and visitors alike to celebrate Independence Day with decorated bikes, creative floats, patriotic costumes, and plenty of community spirit as participants wind through the beach neighborhood.
Known for its welcoming atmosphere, the parade encourages everyone to take part. Children can decorate their bicycles and wagons, families can build floats, and even pets are invited to join the procession. Along the route, spectators can expect appearances by the VFW Honor Guard, a marching band, local police officers, firefighters, ambulance vehicles, and a variety of community groups, creating a festive celebration that reflects the character of Sound View.
The annual parade also features friendly competition, with awards recognizing standout entries in categories ranging from the best-decorated bike or wagon to the most patriotic outfit, best float, funniest costume, and even best-dressed pet. Whether you’re marching or cheering from the sidelines, the parade offers a classic small-town Fourth of July experience on Connecticut’s shoreline.
