FloatSwella 2026 on the Mystic River
Due to the weather, FloatSwella has been moved to Sunday afternoon.
FloatSwella 2026 on the Mystic River brings kayakers, paddleboarders, and other paddlecraft enthusiasts together for a one-of-a-kind afternoon on the water on Sunday, July 19. Hosted by the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce in partnership with NORTH SWELL, the free community event transforms the Mystic River into a floating gathering as participants launch from multiple locations and paddle to the west side of the river just north of the historic Mystic Bascule Bridge.
More than just a paddle rally, FloatSwella combines outdoor recreation with live music and a lively waterfront atmosphere. Throughout the afternoon, the band Red Lion will perform from a floating stage positioned on the river, providing a soundtrack for paddlers and spectators alike. From the shoreline, visitors can watch hundreds of colorful kayaks and paddleboards drift together while enjoying the energy of one of Mystic’s most distinctive summer traditions.
Whether you’re launching your own paddlecraft or watching from one of the riverfront parks, bridges, or restaurants, FloatSwella offers a unique perspective on downtown Mystic. The event celebrates the community’s connection to the Mystic River while encouraging safe, non-motorized recreation in one of southeastern Connecticut’s most scenic waterfront settings.
