FloatSwella 2026 on the Mystic River
FloatSwella 2026 on the Mystic River returns for another afternoon of paddling, waterfront gathering, and summer energy along the Mystic River as the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce partners with NORTH SWELL for the popular pop-up paddlecraft rally. Running from 1 to 4 p.m. along the west side of the Mystic River north of the historic Mystic Bascule Bridge, the event invites kayakers, paddleboarders, and other non-motorized paddlers to gather on the water for one of the shoreline’s more unique community summer traditions. With boats, boards, music, and spectators lining the river, the event transforms downtown Mystic into a floating social scene in the heart of the village.
FloatSwella centers entirely around paddle-powered craft, creating an atmosphere that blends outdoor recreation with the laid-back energy of a summer waterfront festival. Participants can launch from multiple locations, including River Road near the I-95 bridge, Isham Street at Bay Street, Water Street across from the Daniel Packer Inn, and Williams Beach at the Ocean Community YMCA. Throughout the afternoon, paddlers drift together along the river surrounded by historic waterfront buildings, marinas, restaurants, and crowds gathered along the shoreline to watch the scene unfold.
Safety remains a major focus of the event, with all paddlers required to wear life jackets and motorized boats prohibited from participating. Alcohol is also prohibited during the rally. The combination of paddleboarding, kayaking, summer weather, and Mystic’s busy waterfront atmosphere has helped FloatSwella grow into one of the region’s more recognizable on-the-water summer events, drawing both local participants and visitors looking to experience the Mystic River from a different perspective.
