SUMMARY:Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center's Stargazing Nights
DESCRIPTION:Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center’s Stargazing Nights turn a quiet Friday evening in Ninigret Park into one of the most atmospheric experiences in southern New England. Hosted by Frosty Drew Observatory & Science Center\, the weekly gathering invites visitors to explore the night sky through powerful telescopes while astronomers guide guests across planets\, star clusters\, distant galaxies\, and the glowing band of the Milky Way overhead. Under some of the darkest skies in Rhode Island\, the experience feels less like a formal science program and more like stumbling into a community of people quietly obsessed with the universe. \nAs darkness settles over Ninigret Park\, visitors can expect views that change depending on the season and sky conditions\, often including Saturn’s rings\, Jupiter’s moons\, the cratered surface of the Moon\, and deep space objects rarely visible in brighter suburban areas. The observatory’s Sky Theatre and telescope stations create an immersive environment where curious first-timers mingle with amateur astronomers and longtime stargazers. There’s something strangely calming about standing in near silence while strangers take turns peering into the cosmos\, especially on clear summer nights when the Milky Way stretches visibly across the sky. \nThe observatory typically opens around 8:30 p.m. on Friday nights and remains active through at least 10:30 p.m.\, sometimes later depending on weather and viewing conditions. Because the event is weather dependent\, updates are posted on the day of the event before 3 p.m. Organizers also note that Ninigret Park’s dark sky rules prohibit white light use after dusk in order to protect night vision and sensitive astronomical equipment\, giving the entire area an almost surreal glow of dim red lights and shadowy pathways. Tickets for Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center’s Stargazing Nights can be purchased by clicking the event link below. \nWhen ticket sales open\, a link to purchase / acquire tickets will be added to the “Cost” field on the event page. Once event capacity is reached\, these fields will be listed as “Sold Out“\, and we will be unable to allow entry to any more guests. \nRules and Suggestions:\n• Guests should avoid using white flashlights\, phone flashlights\, or bright screens after dusk\n• Red light flashlights are encouraged to preserve night vision\n• Bug spray is highly recommended during warmer months due to mosquitoes and insects near the wildlife refuge\n• Weather conditions may affect visibility or event operations\n• Children ages 5 and older require tickets\n• Arriving early is recommended for the best viewing opportunities and parking access \n

SUMMARY:Napatree Investigators Program
DESCRIPTION:Napatree Investigators Program gives children ages 7 to 13 the opportunity to explore one of Rhode Island’s most remarkable coastal environments through hands-on learning and outdoor discovery. Hosted by the Watch Hill Conservancy\, the summer series invites young nature enthusiasts to spend their mornings investigating the habitats\, wildlife\, and ecosystems that make Napatree Point such a unique conservation area. \nRegister for free by clicking the website link at the bottom of this page. \nEach week focuses on a different conservation theme\, allowing participants to discover everything from tidal pools and crabbing to lagoon exploration\, seining\, beach combing\, and clamming. Guided by the Conservancy’s naturalists\, children will learn through direct observation and exploration while developing a deeper appreciation for the shoreline and its natural resources. \nFamilies can register for a single session\, several weeks\, or the entire program. Because all sessions within a given week cover the same theme\, organizers ask that children register for only one day per week. Participants will also receive a custom program t-shirt as a keepsake from their summer adventures at Napatree Point. \nProgram Themes \nWeek 1: Tidal Pools\nJuly 7\, 8\, 9 \nWeek 2: Crabbing\nJuly 14\, 15\, 16 \nWeek 3: Lagoon Exploration\nJuly 21\, 22\, 23 \nWeek 4: Seining\nJuly 28\, 29\, 30 \nWeek 5: Beach Combing\nAugust 4\, 5\, 6 \nWeek 6: Clamming\nAugust 11\, 12\, 13 \nAdditional Information \n\nAges 7-13\nRegistration required\nAttend one session\, multiple weeks\, or the full series\nOne registration per child per week requested\nLed by Watch Hill Conservancy naturalists\nIncludes commemorative program t-shirt\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:FloatSwella 2026 on the Mystic River
DESCRIPTION:FloatSwella 2026 on the Mystic River returns for another afternoon of paddling\, waterfront gathering\, and summer energy along the Mystic River as the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce partners with NORTH SWELL for the popular pop-up paddlecraft rally. Running from 1 to 4 p.m. along the west side of the Mystic River north of the historic Mystic Bascule Bridge\, the event invites kayakers\, paddleboarders\, and other non-motorized paddlers to gather on the water for one of the shoreline’s more unique community summer traditions. With boats\, boards\, music\, and spectators lining the river\, the event transforms downtown Mystic into a floating social scene in the heart of the village. \nFloatSwella centers entirely around paddle-powered craft\, creating an atmosphere that blends outdoor recreation with the laid-back energy of a summer waterfront festival. Participants can launch from multiple locations\, including River Road near the I-95 bridge\, Isham Street at Bay Street\, Water Street across from the Daniel Packer Inn\, and Williams Beach at the Ocean Community YMCA. Throughout the afternoon\, paddlers drift together along the river surrounded by historic waterfront buildings\, marinas\, restaurants\, and crowds gathered along the shoreline to watch the scene unfold. \nSafety remains a major focus of the event\, with all paddlers required to wear life jackets and motorized boats prohibited from participating. Alcohol is also prohibited during the rally. The combination of paddleboarding\, kayaking\, summer weather\, and Mystic’s busy waterfront atmosphere has helped FloatSwella grow into one of the region’s more recognizable on-the-water summer events\, drawing both local participants and visitors looking to experience the Mystic River from a different perspective. \n
