Designed to be welcoming\, relaxed\, and community-focused\, the group invites beginners\, longtime players\, and curious first-timers alike to spend an evening strumming familiar songs and learning together in a casual social atmosphere. \nThe gatherings focus less on formal music instruction and more on participation\, encouragement\, and shared enjoyment of music. Because the ukulele is approachable and easy to pick up\, the sessions tend to attract a wide mix of ages and experience levels\, creating an environment where newcomers don’t feel intimidated. \nWhat makes the Mystic Ukulele Strummers stand out is the sense of community built around the music itself. SUMMARY:Knickerbocker All Stars Bring Blues\, Soul and Dancing Back to the Knick
DESCRIPTION:Knickerbocker All Stars Bring Blues\, Soul and Dancing Back to the Knick Friday\, Oct. 9\, as the nine-piece band returns to the Westerly room whose musical history inspired its name for a night built around blues\, jump blues\, soul and a dance floor meant to be used. \nThis isn’t simply a concert with dancing permitted off to the side. \nDance Night at the Knick is built around the floor. \nThe Knickerbocker All Stars take the stage at 8 p.m.\, bringing two vocalists\, keyboards\, guitar\, bass\, drums and a four-piece horn section into a room with decades of history behind exactly this kind of music. \nThe current lineup is Willie J Laws on vocals and guitar\, Alexus Lee on vocals\, Arthur Migliazza on keyboards\, Osi Brathwaite on drums\, Paul Loranger on bass\, Doc Chanonhouse on trumpet\, Emmett Goods on trombone\, Rich Lataille on saxophone and Doug James on baritone saxophone. \nThat’s a lot of horsepower for a dance floor. \nA Band Born From the Knick’s Musical History\nThe name Knickerbocker All Stars isn’t borrowed from the venue simply because the band happens to play there. \nThe group’s identity is tied directly to the musical legacy of the Knickerbocker. \nFor generations\, the Westerly club developed a reputation as one of southern New England’s homes for blues and roots music. The Knickerbocker All Stars were created in that tradition\, drawing heavily from the American music that historically filled rooms like this one: blues\, jazz\, jump blues\, R&B and soul. \nThe result isn’t a nostalgia act recreating a particular year. \nThe band takes the language of classic American roots music and puts it behind a large ensemble capable of moving from blues shuffles to swinging horn arrangements and deep soul grooves. \nThat four-man horn section is particularly important. \nTrumpet\, trombone\, tenor saxophone and baritone saxophone give the All Stars the kind of punch associated with the great jump-blues and R&B bands\, while the rhythm section keeps the music pointed toward the dance floor. \nSome Serious Blues Credentials\nThe All Stars have accumulated an impressive collection of collaborators. \nMembers of the group have recorded or performed with artists including Marcia Ball\, Jimmie Vaughan\, Sugaray Rayford\, Thornetta Davis\, Curtis Salgado\, Duke Robillard\, Al Copley\, Dave Maxwell\, Sax Gordon and Johnny Nicholas. \nThere’s also a particularly strong Rhode Island connection. \nThe All Stars have worked with musicians associated with Roomful of Blues\, the Rhode Island-born band that became one of the country’s enduring institutions in jump blues\, swing and R&B. \nThe Knickerbocker All Stars have also reached the upper reaches of the Living Blues Radio Chart\, appeared on the Grammy nomination ballot and received a Blues Music Award nomination for Soul Blues Album of the Year. \nBut those credentials aren’t really the point Friday night. \nThis show isn’t designed for an audience sitting silently in theater seats. \nIt’s Dance Night. \nTwo Voices at the Front\nThe current lineup also gives the band two distinctive lead voices. \nWillie J Laws brings guitar and vocals to the front line\, backed by decades immersed in blues\, funk\, R&B and Texas-rooted musical traditions. \nAlongside him is Alexus Lee\, a Rhode Island singer-songwriter with a powerful soul and R&B voice. \nPutting both singers in front of a nine-piece band allows the All Stars to move through a much broader range of material and energy than a conventional small blues combo. \nBehind them is a lineup assembled for scale: four horns\, keyboards\, bass and drums. \nWhen all nine musicians are working at once\, this is closer to a small soul revue than a bar band. \nThe Knick Is Changing\, but the Dance Floor Remains\nThere’s another layer to Friday’s show in 2026. \nThe historic Knickerbocker entered a new chapter this year under the stewardship of the UNITED Theatre\, with the space becoming the Knick Music Lab. \nThe transition has expanded the building’s role in music education and community programming while preserving live performances in a room that already carries considerable musical history. \nAnd one of the traditions being preserved is dancing. \nFriday’s show is billed as the second Dance Night of the fall\, following the Al Copley Quintet’s swing night in September. \nThat matters because there aren’t many music rooms left where dancing is treated as part of the event rather than something an audience might spontaneously decide to do. \nAt the Knick\, the dance floor is part of the identity. \nEat Before You Come\nThere is one important change longtime Knick visitors should know about. \nThe Knick currently does not have a working kitchen. \nPrepackaged concession snacks and soft drinks will be available\, along with a limited bar offering selections of packaged beer\, wine and canned cocktails. \nAnyone remembering the Knickerbocker as a place to have dinner with a show should plan differently for this one. \nEat beforehand. \nThen show up ready for the reason the room became famous in the first place. \nA band\, a dance floor and American roots music loud enough to fill both. \nMore information is available at the Event Website link below. SUMMARY:The Machine Brings Nearly 40 Years of Pink Floyd to the Garde
DESCRIPTION:The Machine Brings Nearly 40 Years of Pink Floyd to the Garde Friday\, Oct. 9\, with a band that has spent almost four decades doing something more ambitious than simply reproducing Pink Floyd’s biggest hits. \nThe New York-based quartet reaches across Pink Floyd’s entire career\, mixing the songs virtually everyone knows with album tracks and deep cuts that rarely turn up in conventional tribute shows. Just as importantly\, The Machine has developed a reputation for leaving room inside those songs for improvisation. \nThat distinction has helped keep the group on the road since 1988\, making The Machine one of America’s longest-running Pink Floyd tribute acts. \nAt the Garde\, that means a concert built for the people who know The Dark Side of the Moon\, Wish You Were Here\, and The Wall\, but also for the Pink Floyd fan who wants the band to keep digging. \nThis Goes Back to 1988\nThe Machine began with drummer Tahrah Cohen and guitarist and vocalist Joe Pascarell\, initially playing as a local cover band in the Rockland County\, New York area. \nPink Floyd wasn’t originally the band’s entire purpose. \nBut the response to its Floyd material helped push The Machine toward becoming a dedicated tribute act\, and by the end of the 1980s the group was pursuing it full time. \nThat puts the band’s history in an interesting context. \nThe Machine formed only a few years after Roger Waters left Pink Floyd and while David Gilmour\, Nick Mason and Richard Wright were still touring arenas as Pink Floyd. This wasn’t a tribute assembled decades after the original band’s story had ended. \nThe Machine has now been performing this music for nearly as long as Pink Floyd itself existed as an active band. \nThey Don’t Just Play the Obvious Songs\nA Pink Floyd tribute could easily build a set around Money\, Another Brick in the Wall\, Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb and call it a night. \nThe Machine has deliberately gone further. \nThe band describes its repertoire as reaching across Pink Floyd’s 15 studio albums\, pairing familiar material with obscure selections. Over the years\, it has performed complete albums\, taken audience requests and even staged what it calls an A-to-Z show\, selecting a Pink Floyd song for every letter of the alphabet. \nThat approach matters with Pink Floyd because the band’s catalog changed dramatically over time. \nThe psychedelic experimentation of the Syd Barrett years doesn’t sound much like the enormous conceptual records of the 1970s. Those\, in turn\, lead into the increasingly fractured Waters-era Pink Floyd and the later Gilmour-led band. \nThe Machine has enough material in its repertoire to move around inside all of it. \nAnd unlike a production constructed to reproduce the same set note-for-note every night\, improvisation remains part of the band’s identity. The group specifically points to the looser\, exploratory performances of early-1970s Pink Floyd as an influence on its live approach. \nFour Musicians Have to Create a Very Big Sound\nThe current Machine is a quartet. \nTahrah Cohen remains behind the drums as the group’s founding member. Scott Chasolen handles keyboards and vocals\, Ryan Ball guitar and vocals\, and Chris DeAngelis bass and lead vocals. \nThat’s a compact lineup for music famous for sounding enormous. \nPink Floyd recordings were built with layered guitars\, synthesizers\, tape effects\, backing vocals\, sound effects and studio experimentation. Later tours expanded that further with additional musicians\, enormous lighting rigs\, projections and some of the most ambitious concert staging in rock. \nThe Machine’s answer has been to combine musicianship with its own theatrical production. \nLighting and expanded visual elements are part of the show\, particularly drawing from the spectacle that became inseparable from Pink Floyd’s arena concerts during the 1980s. \nThe result isn’t intended to make four musicians physically resemble David Gilmour\, Roger Waters\, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. \nThe target is the sound and experience. \nThey’ve Played Pink Floyd With Entire Orchestras\nThe Machine’s history has taken the group considerably beyond the normal tribute-band circuit. \nIt has performed across North America\, Europe and Asia\, appeared at festivals including Bonnaroo\, Riverbend and Gathering of the Vibes\, and collaborated with major symphony orchestras. \nThat list includes the Atlanta\, Detroit\, Pittsburgh\, Jacksonville\, Charlotte and San Diego symphonies\, along with the Buffalo Philharmonic. \nThe orchestral collaborations make particular sense with Pink Floyd. \nAlbums such as Atom Heart Mother\, The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall were never constrained by the traditional guitar-bass-drums structure of a rock band. Orchestration\, choirs\, synthesizers and sound design were part of the vocabulary. \nThe Machine even released The Symphonic Side of the Moon\, built around a live performance of The Dark Side of the Moon with orchestra. \nThe Band Continues Without One of Its Founders\nThere is also a more personal reason The Machine continues playing this music. \nCo-founder Joe Pascarell died Jan. 21\, 2022\, at age 60. \nPascarell had been central to The Machine from its beginnings in 1988\, serving as guitarist\, vocalist\, musical leader and\, according to his bandmates\, teacher and creative force. \nThe band’s official memorial to Pascarell describes someone whose influences extended far beyond Pink Floyd\, from The Beatles and Glen Campbell to Emerson\, Lake & Palmer\, King Crimson and Jethro Tull. \nThe current band explicitly describes its continuing performances as both a celebration of Pink Floyd and a way of honoring Pascarell’s life and work. \nSo when founding drummer Tahrah Cohen sits behind the kit at the Garde\, there’s nearly four decades of The Machine’s own history sitting there with her. \nPink Floyd in a 100-Year-Old Movie Palace\nThere’s also something particularly appropriate about bringing this show into the Garde during its centennial season. \nThe Garde opened in 1926\, long before psychedelic rock\, concept albums or arena laser shows existed. A century later\, the restored movie palace has the scale and theatrical setting to accommodate music that was always about more than simply watching four musicians play instruments. \nThe Machine brings the other half of the equation: the lights\, atmosphere and sonic scale associated with Pink Floyd. \nThe Garde lists the Oct. 9 performance for 8 p.m.\, with tickets priced from $45 to $65 plus fees. CTvisit lists the performance running to approximately 10:30 p.m. \nFor casual listeners\, there should be plenty that’s familiar. \nFor the person sitting nearby who can identify a Pink Floyd song from three seconds of keyboard noise\, there’s a good chance The Machine knows that one\, too. \nMore information is available at the Event Website link below. To purchase tickets\, click the Event Ticketing link below. \nDetails\nEvent: The Machine Performs Pink Floyd\nDate: Friday\, Oct. 9\, 2026\nTime: 8 p.m.\nVenue: Garde Arts Center\nAddress: 325 State St.\, New London\, CT\nTickets: $45–$65 plus fees\nBand: Tahrah Cohen\, drums; Scott Chasolen\, keyboards and vocals; Ryan Ball\, guitar and vocals; Chris DeAngelis\, bass and lead vocals\nMusic: Pink Floyd favorites\, album tracks and deep cuts drawn from across the band’s catalog\nProduction: Concert lighting and theatrical stage elements are part of The Machine’s performances\nEstimated Length: CTvisit lists the event from 8–10:30 p.m.\nParking: Downtown New London parking is available around the theater; allow additional time before the performance\nTransit: New London Union Station is within walking distance of the Garde \n  \n  \nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown.

Organizers have assembled a mix of farms\, bakers\, food vendors and craftspeople\, then added a different musician in the gazebo for each market. \nAnd the opening market already has a fairly substantial vendor roster. \nFrom Pumpkins and Sourdough to Coffee and Local Honey\nThe fall timing means shoppers can expect some of the things that disappear quickly once Connecticut’s growing season winds down. \nFairview is advertising fresh fruits and vegetables\, pumpkins and gourds\, baked goods and sourdough\, coffee and prepared food\, honey\, jams\, candles\, handmade products\, hard cider and wine. \nAmong the vendors currently announced are Long Meadow Farm\, Cedar & Stone Farm\, Stahley’s Tree Farm & Garden\, Whittle’s Farm\, Radiance Gardens\, Baked by Rose\, Cedar Sweets\, Wisketopia\, Woodfellas\, Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee\, Issa Catering\, Crystal Hunter Liz and A Cupcake for Later. \nThat mix pushes this closer to a compact fall festival than a produce-only farmers market: grab a coffee or something to eat\, browse the makers\, pick up fall produce and stay for the music. \nFour Market Days\, Four Musicians\nFairview is also changing the soundtrack each time. \nThe Oct. 2 opening market features Paul Scrungio in the gazebo. Kipp Sturgeon follows Oct. 16\, Clayton Allen plays Oct. 30\, and Sal Basile closes the series Nov. 6. HappeningNext \nIt’s a small detail that makes the four dates more than repetitions of the same market. \nCome back two weeks later and both the seasonal produce and the music have changed. \nA Preview of What’s Coming to Fairview\nThere’s another reason this particular farmers market caught our attention. \nThe poster invites visitors to stop at the booth for The Salty Radish\, described as the future healthy Vista Point restaurant\, with free farmers market bags available for Vista Point depositors. \nThat’s part of a much larger project taking shape at Fairview. \nVista Point at Fairview is being developed as a nonprofit Life Plan Community overlooking the Thames River. Plans call for six different dining concepts rather than a single traditional dining room\, along with amenities including a 216-seat performing arts center\, a 75-foot indoor saltwater pool\, fitness facilities and waterfront gathering spaces. Vista Point at Fairview | \nThe Salty Radish is planned as the health-focused member of that restaurant collection\, alongside an Italian pizzeria\, bakery and cafe\, traditional restaurant\, bar and lounge and another chef-driven dining concept. Vista Point at Fairview | \nSo while the farmers market stands perfectly well on its own as a Friday afternoon destination\, it also gives the wider Groton community an opportunity to see what’s happening on the Fairview campus. \nAn Afternoon Market Rather Than a Weekend Commitment\nThe timing may be one of its advantages. \nInstead of competing with the increasingly packed Saturday and Sunday fall-festival calendar\, Fairview has put the market on Friday afternoons. \nIt’s only two and a half hours. \nThere’s no admission charge. \nAnd visitors can treat it however they want — make a quick produce run\, grab coffee and baked goods\, browse the local makers or settle near the gazebo and listen to the music. \nThe first one arrives Oct. 2. \nThen the market returns every other Friday through the end of October before one final afternoon Nov. 6. \nMore information is available at the Event Website link below. \nDetails\nEvent: Fairview Fall Farmers Market\nDates: Friday\, Oct. 2; Friday\, Oct. 16; Friday\, Oct. 30; and Friday\, Nov. 6\, 2026\nTime: 1:30–4 p.m.\nLocation: Fairview Town Green\nAddress:  235 Lestertown Road\, Groton\, CT 06340\nAdmission: Free and open to the community\nOct. 2 Live Music: Paul Scrungio\nOct. 16 Live Music: Kipp Sturgeon\nOct. 30 Live Music: Clayton Allen\nNov. 6 Live Music: Sal Basile\nMarket: Local produce\, pumpkins and gourds\, baked goods\, sourdough\, coffee\, prepared food\, honey\, jams\, handmade goods\, candles\, hard cider\, wine and additional seasonal products\nEntertainment: Live acoustic music in the gazebo \n  \n  \n  \nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown.

SUMMARY:Witches Take Over the Mystic River for an Eighth Annual Halloween Paddle and Coat Drive
DESCRIPTION:Witches Take Over the Mystic River for an Eighth Annual Halloween Paddle and Coat Drive on Saturday\, Oct. 17\, when costumed paddlers trade broomsticks for kayaks and paddleboards for one of Mystic’s more unusual Halloween traditions. \nAdventure Mystic’s annual Witch Paddle brings witches\, warlocks\, goblins\, ghouls and whatever other creatures people can dream up onto the Mystic River for three hours of paddling\, costumes and community fundraising. \nAnd after eight years\, this isn’t simply a group of people deciding it would be funny to paddle around wearing pointy hats. \nThe Witch Paddle has become a genuine Mystic Halloween tradition. \nFrom a Few Witches to an Annual Mystic Spectacle\nAdventure Mystic traces its Witch Paddle back to 2019\, and photographs from the event’s early years show exactly why the idea caught on. \nA flotilla of witches moving along the Mystic River is difficult to ignore. \nBy October 2020\, the second annual paddle was already being documented as costumed participants gathered at Adventure Mystic before heading onto the river. The event continued growing\, reaching its sixth year in 2024 and seventh in 2025. \nNow Adventure Mystic is preparing to launch the witches for an eighth time. \nThis year’s paddle runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday\, Oct. 17\, beginning at Adventure Mystic at 15 Holmes St. \nCostumes aren’t restricted to witches. Organizers are encouraging anything witchy\, spooky\, funny\, creepy\, creative or completely over the top. \nThere is some incentive to put in the effort: prizes will be awarded to the top three costumes. \nThis One Is for Experienced Paddlers\nThe costumes may be ridiculous. The water requirements aren’t. \nAdventure Mystic specifically describes this as an event for experienced paddlers only\, and participants need to bring their own equipment. \nKayaks\, paddleboards\, canoes and pedal kayaks are welcome\, but there are no rentals for the event. Each paddler needs the appropriate equipment\, including their own PFD\, paddle and leash. \nAnyone younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. \nThat experience requirement is worth taking seriously in October. Halloween costumes add another consideration when you’re balancing on a paddleboard or maneuvering a kayak\, and Mystic River water temperatures are considerably less forgiving in fall than during the middle of summer. \nThe result should be a great spectacle from shore\, but the people wearing the witch hats on the water need to know what they’re doing. \nThe Coat Drive Gives the Witches a Mission\nThere’s another reason for gathering beyond the fun. \nParticipants are asked to bring a new or gently used coat for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center\, continuing the charitable component that has accompanied the Witch Paddle for years. \nThe Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center has served the region since 1985 and provides assistance to residents of Mystic\, Stonington\, Pawcatuck\, North Stonington and Westerly. \nIts work extends well beyond clothing. The nonprofit provides food and household necessities\, utility and housing assistance\, senior transportation and other support for local residents experiencing financial hardship. \nThat makes the coat drive particularly local: coats collected during an afternoon on the Mystic River go to an organization serving people in the same communities surrounding it. \nThe Party Continues Back on Land\nNobody has to immediately take off the witch hat once the boats come out of the water. \nAdventure Mystic is following the paddle with a BBQ and DJ after-party\, and participants are invited to bring a side dish or snack to share. \nThat turns the afternoon into something closer to a Halloween gathering than simply a three-hour paddle. \nThe registration fee is $25 per person\, and advance registration is mandatory. There are no walk-ups or day-of registrations. \nAdventure Mystic’s current booking information says registration closes at 3 p.m. Friday\, Oct. 16\, the day before the event. \nIf Saturday’s weather refuses to cooperate with the witches\, the rain date is Sunday\, Oct. 18\, from 3 to 6 p.m. \nFor everyone else\, there is always the option of watching from dry land as a coven of witches paddles through Mystic. \nTo register\, click the Event Ticketing link below. \nDetails\nEvent: 8th Annual Witch Paddle & Coat Drive\nDate: Saturday\, Oct. 17\, 2026\nTime: 3–6 p.m.\nLocation: Adventure Mystic\nAddress: 15 Holmes St.\, Mystic\, CT 06355\nPrice: $25 per person\nExperience: Experienced paddlers only\nBoats: Bring your own kayak\, paddleboard\, canoe or pedal kayak; no rentals are available\nRequired Equipment: Participants must bring their own PFD\, paddle and leash\nAge: Participants younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult\nRegistration: Required in advance; no walk-ups or day-of registration\nRegistration Deadline: 3 p.m. Friday\, Oct. 16\nCostumes: Halloween costumes strongly encouraged; prizes for the top three costumes\nCoat Drive: Bring a new or gently used coat for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center\nAfter Party: BBQ and DJ following the paddle; participants may bring a side dish or snack to share\nRain Date: Sunday\, Oct. 18\, 3–6 p.me \nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown.

SUMMARY:Fairview Fall Farmers Market Brings Four Fridays of Local Food\, Makers and Music to Groton
DESCRIPTION:Fairview Fall Farmers Market Brings Four Fridays of Local Food\, Makers and Music to Groton beginning Oct. 2\, turning the Town Green into an afternoon market filled with Connecticut produce\, baked goods\, coffee\, handmade wares\, food and live acoustic music. \nThe market runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on four Fridays — Oct. 2\, Oct. 16\, Oct. 30 and Nov. 6 — and is free and open to the community. Fairview’s current schedule confirms all four dates. \nThis isn’t simply a farm stand set up for the afternoon.

SUMMARY:Rush: Fifty Something
DESCRIPTION:Primary Tickets for this event are extremely limited or have sold out.\nPrimary Tickets for this event are extremely limited or have sold out. \nThere’s a certain weight that comes with the name Rush… not just nostalgia\, but the kind of respect built over decades of doing things their own way. The *Rush: Fifty Something Tour* taps into that legacy\, celebrating more than half a century of music that pushed rock into more technical\, ambitious territory without losing its pulse. It’s not about trying to recreate the past beat for beat… it’s about honoring it\, revisiting it\, and letting it breathe in a live setting again. \nThe music itself still feels larger than life. From the intricate guitar work to the shifting time signatures and layered sound\, these songs weren’t built to be background noise… they demand attention. Tracks that longtime fans know inside and out take on new energy on stage\, stretching just enough to remind you why they’ve lasted this long. There’s a balance here between precision and feel… complex without being cold\, powerful without losing that sense of movement. \nLive\, it turns into something that feels shared more than performed. You’ve got fans who’ve been with the band for decades\, standing next to people discovering it for the first time\, all locked into the same moments when those familiar riffs kick in. It’s less about spectacle and more about the experience… the sound\, the musicianship\, the connection. If you’re looking for a night that leans into legacy but still feels alive in the moment\, this tour lands right in that space.
