SUMMARY:Mystic Cleanup with ORCA and Adventure Mystic
DESCRIPTION:Mystic Cleanup with ORCA and Adventure Mystic brings volunteers together for an afternoon focused on protecting the Mystic River and surrounding downtown areas through shoreline and community cleanup efforts\, both on land and on the water. Hosted by Ocean Recovery Community Alliance in partnership with Adventure Mystic\, the event combines environmental stewardship with outdoor recreation as experienced paddlers head onto the river in kayaks and paddleboards to remove trash directly from the water. Others will spread throughout areas around town\, helping clean public spaces and shoreline sections throughout Mystic. \nThe cleanup begins at Adventure Mystic’s back lot along Holmes Street\, placing volunteers directly beside the Mystic River and close to some of the town’s most scenic waterfront areas. For participants comfortable on the water\, the opportunity to paddle through the river while helping clean the shoreline adds a more active and immersive layer to the event than a traditional roadside cleanup. Adventure Mystic is providing a limited number of kayaks and paddleboards for volunteers\, creating a unique chance to experience the river while contributing to local conservation efforts. The event also reflects the growing focus throughout the region on preserving coastal ecosystems and maintaining the beauty of heavily visited shoreline towns like Mystic. \nMystic Cleanup with ORCA and Adventure Mystic takes place May 16 from noon to 3 p.m.\, with a rain date scheduled for May 17 at the same time. Organizers note that volunteers using provided kayaks or paddleboards must reserve equipment ahead of time during registration\, and each participant in a group must sign up individually. Participants using watercraft will also need to complete a waiver before launch.
