SUMMARY:Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center's Stargazing Nights
DESCRIPTION:Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center’s Stargazing Nights turn a quiet Friday evening in Ninigret Park into one of the most atmospheric experiences in southern New England. Hosted by Frosty Drew Observatory & Science Center\, the weekly gathering invites visitors to explore the night sky through powerful telescopes while astronomers guide guests across planets\, star clusters\, distant galaxies\, and the glowing band of the Milky Way overhead. Under some of the darkest skies in Rhode Island\, the experience feels less like a formal science program and more like stumbling into a community of people quietly obsessed with the universe. \nAs darkness settles over Ninigret Park\, visitors can expect views that change depending on the season and sky conditions\, often including Saturn’s rings\, Jupiter’s moons\, the cratered surface of the Moon\, and deep space objects rarely visible in brighter suburban areas. The observatory’s Sky Theatre and telescope stations create an immersive environment where curious first-timers mingle with amateur astronomers and longtime stargazers. There’s something strangely calming about standing in near silence while strangers take turns peering into the cosmos\, especially on clear summer nights when the Milky Way stretches visibly across the sky. \nThe observatory typically opens around 8:30 p.m. on Friday nights and remains active through at least 10:30 p.m.\, sometimes later depending on weather and viewing conditions. Because the event is weather dependent\, updates are posted on the day of the event before 3 p.m. Organizers also note that Ninigret Park’s dark sky rules prohibit white light use after dusk in order to protect night vision and sensitive astronomical equipment\, giving the entire area an almost surreal glow of dim red lights and shadowy pathways. Tickets for Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center’s Stargazing Nights can be purchased by clicking the event link below. \nWhen ticket sales open\, a link to purchase / acquire tickets will be added to the “Cost” field on the event page. Once event capacity is reached\, these fields will be listed as “Sold Out“\, and we will be unable to allow entry to any more guests. \nRules and Suggestions:\n• Guests should avoid using white flashlights\, phone flashlights\, or bright screens after dusk\n• Red light flashlights are encouraged to preserve night vision\n• Bug spray is highly recommended during warmer months due to mosquitoes and insects near the wildlife refuge\n• Weather conditions may affect visibility or event operations\n• Children ages 5 and older require tickets\n• Arriving early is recommended for the best viewing opportunities and parking access \n

SUMMARY:Counterfeit Cash (Johnny Cash Tribute) at the Charlestown Rathskeller 2026
DESCRIPTION:Counterfeit Cash (Johnny Cash Tribute) at the Charlestown Rathskeller 2026 brings the songs of the Man in Black to Charlestown on Sunday\, August 9\, for a free afternoon concert in the Rathskeller’s outdoor setting. From 4 to 7 p.m.\, the tribute band will dig into Johnny Cash’s unmistakable catalog of country\, rockabilly\, gospel\, and outlaw favorites. \nSongs such as “Folsom Prison Blues\,” “Ring of Fire\,” and “I Walk the Line” form the backbone of a show designed to capture the sound and attitude of Cash rather than simply borrowing the black clothes. Counterfeit Cash focuses on faithful arrangements of the recordings that made Cash one of the defining figures in American music. \nThe Sunday afternoon start also makes this an easy concert to build a day around. Grab lunch or a drink\, settle into the Rathskeller’s wooded grounds\, play a lawn game\, and stay for three hours of live music. Admission is free. \nAbout Counterfeit Cash\nCounterfeit Cash is a Johnny Cash tribute dedicated to recreating the sound\, energy\, and character of Cash’s music onstage. \nThe band’s repertoire reaches across Cash’s long career\, including the early Sun Records sound that helped shape rockabilly and rock and roll\, the stark storytelling of his country recordings\, and the outlaw attitude that made him an artist who never fit comfortably inside a single genre. \nFor audiences\, that means plenty of recognizable material. Songs such as “Folsom Prison Blues\,” “Ring of Fire\,” and “I Walk the Line” are among the classics featured in the band’s performances. \nLearn more about Counterfeit Cash \nThe Music of Johnny Cash\nJohnny Cash’s catalog stretches across country\, rock and roll\, folk\, blues\, and gospel\, giving a tribute show plenty of room to move. \nHis stripped-down rhythms and booming vocals made early recordings instantly recognizable\, while his songs frequently centered on working people\, prisoners\, faith\, regret\, love\, and redemption. Decades later\, those recordings remain staples of American music. \nCounterfeit Cash brings that catalog back to the stage in a setting considerably more relaxed than a traditional theater show. \nAn Afternoon at the Rathskeller\nThe Charlestown Rathskeller sits among the trees on Old Coach Road\, giving its live music events a distinctly Rhode Island summer atmosphere. \nGuests can come early for lunch or drinks and spend time outside before the performance. The property features expansive outdoor areas\, fire pits\, and lawn games alongside the restaurant and tavern. \nWith the concert running from 4 to 7 p.m.\, there’s no need to wait until nighttime for the music to begin. \nFood & Drinks\nFood and beverages are available for purchase from the Charlestown Rathskeller throughout the afternoon. \nThe combination of an outdoor concert and full restaurant makes this less formal than a ticketed theater performance. Guests can make the music part of a late lunch\, an early dinner\, or simply settle in with a drink for the show. \nEvent Details\nDate\nSunday\, August 9\, 2026 \nTime\n4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. \nLocation\nThe Charlestown Rathskeller Tavern \nAddress\n489A Old Coach Road\nCharlestown\, RI 02813 \nAdmission\nFree \nFood & Drinks\nAvailable for purchase. \nSetting\nOutdoor live music at the Rathskeller’s wooded property. \nImportant Notes\nGuests are encouraged to arrive early if they plan to have lunch or drinks before the performance. \nMore Information\nFor more information\, visit the event website using the Event Website link below. \nFor ticket purchases\, click on the Ticketing link below. \n\n

SUMMARY:Another Tequila Sunrise at the Rathskeller
DESCRIPTION:Another Tequila Sunrise at the Rathskeller brings the music of the Eagles to Charlestown on Friday\, August 14\, for three hours of classic rock under the summer sky. The New England-based tribute band takes the stage from 8 to 11 p.m.\, performing everything from laid-back country rock and harmony-driven ballads to the guitar-heavy songs that defined the Eagles’ later years. \nThis isn’t a tribute built around costumes or impersonation. Another Tequila Sunrise has been performing the Eagles’ catalog since 2001\, concentrating on the details that made the original band distinctive: layered vocal harmonies\, intertwined guitars and arrangements that can move from the quiet opening of “Desperado” to the unmistakable guitar finale of “Hotel California.” The band’s repertoire also reaches beyond the Eagles into solo material from Don Henley\, Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh. (ANOTHER TEQUILA SUNRISE) \nThe Charlestown Rathskeller gives the show a fitting setting. Tucked into the woods along Old Coach Road\, the historic tavern combines outdoor music with food\, drinks\, fire pits and lawn games. Come early for dinner\, then settle in for a Friday night of songs that helped define the sound of 1970s American rock. \nAbout Another Tequila Sunrise\nAnother Tequila Sunrise is a New England-based Eagles tribute that has been performing since 2001 and has toured throughout the country. Rather than concentrating on a single period of the Eagles\, the group covers the band’s evolution from early Southern California country rock through its arena-sized rock years. \nThe seven-member lineup is structured to reproduce the instrumental and vocal layers of an Eagles concert. The current group includes John Robert Murphy handling the Don Henley vocal role\, Jeff Griffith on guitar and vocals in the Glenn Frey role\, Bryan Picher performing Joe Walsh’s guitar parts\, Jeremy Beek covering the Don Felder and Steuart Smith guitar work\, John Baptista on bass and vocals\, Denis Brunelle on keyboards\, guitar and vocals\, and Steve Brodi on drums and vocals. \nThere’s considerable experience behind those parts. Murphy spent years fronting a nationally touring Journey tribute and has performed with Journey and Santana founding member Gregg Rolie. Griffith studied music at UMass Lowell along with classes at Juilliard and New England Conservatory\, while Picher specializes in reproducing the details of Joe Walsh’s distinctive guitar style. \nWhat You’ll Hear\nThe Eagles built a catalog broad enough that an evening devoted to their music doesn’t stay in one gear for long. \nAnother Tequila Sunrise’s repertoire includes the country-rock sound of “Take It Easy\,” “Lyin’ Eyes” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling\,” harmony-rich ballads such as “Desperado\,” “Wasted Time” and “Best of My Love\,” and harder-edged tracks including “Victim of Love” and “Hotel California.” \nThe band also performs deeper album cuts and music from the Eagles members’ solo careers\, including material from Don Henley\, Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh. Some performances have even featured complete Eagles albums\, reflecting how deeply the group reaches into the catalog. \nThat should make the Rathskeller show more than a quick run through a dozen obvious hits. Casual Eagles fans will know plenty of the songs\, while people who wore out copies of Desperado\, One of These Nights or Hotel California should find plenty tucked into the set for them\, too. \nAn Outdoor Night at the Rathskeller\nThe Charlestown Rathskeller’s wooded property gives this concert a very different feel from seeing an Eagles tribute inside a theater. \nGuests can arrive early for dinner and drinks\, spend some time around the outdoor grounds and stay for the concert from 8 to 11 p.m. The property includes outdoor seating\, fire pits and lawn games\, making it easy to turn the performance into an entire Friday night out rather than arriving just before the first song. \nTickets\nAdvance admission is $20 plus Eventbrite fees. \nTickets will also be available at the door for $25\, subject to availability. \nWith a three-hour performance scheduled\, arriving early also leaves time for dinner before the band begins. \nEvent Details\nDate\nFriday\, August 14\, 2026 \nTime\n8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. \nLocation\nThe Charlestown Rathskeller Tavern \nAddress\n489 Old Coach Road\nCharlestown\, RI \nAdmission\n$20 advance plus ticketing fees\n$25 at the door \nFood & Drinks\nAvailable for purchase from the Rathskeller. \nSetting\nOutdoor live music on the Rathskeller’s wooded grounds. \nImportant Notes\nAdvance tickets are recommended.

SUMMARY:Amber Rose and The Renegades at the Rathskeller
DESCRIPTION:Amber Rose and The Renegades at the Rathskeller brings a wide-ranging night of classic and modern rock to Charlestown on Saturday\, August 15. The Rhode Island-area band takes the outdoor stage from 8 to 11 p.m.\, with a setlist that can move from Janis Joplin and Led Zeppelin to Heart\, Jefferson Airplane and Adele. \nThis isn’t a single-artist tribute. Amber Rose and The Renegades are a five-piece cover band built around lead singer Amber Rose\, backed by musicians with years of experience in the regional music scene. The group casts a wide net across several decades\, with powerhouse female vocals and guitar-driven rock providing the common thread. (Amber Rose and the Renegades) \nThe Charlestown Rathskeller’s wooded grounds give the show a natural summer setting. Come early for dinner and drinks\, spend some time around the fire pits or lawn games\, then stay for three hours of music outside. Advance tickets are $10 plus fees\, with admission rising to $15 at the door. \nAbout Amber Rose and The Renegades\nAmber Rose and The Renegades have become familiar faces on the Rhode Island and southeastern New England live music circuit\, playing festivals\, community concert series\, clubs and waterfront venues. Their 2026 schedule has included the Bristol Fourth of July Concert Series and Charlestown Seafood Festival\, along with appearances around Rhode Island and Connecticut. (Central Riche Chamber) \nAt the center is Amber Rose\, whose powerful lead vocals allow the band to tackle songs associated with some particularly demanding singers. Rather than staying within one era\, the group’s repertoire moves across classic rock and more contemporary material. \nThat means a set can reach back to the late ’60s and ’70s for Janis Joplin\, Led Zeppelin and Jefferson Airplane\, move through the arena-rock power of Heart\, then jump forward to songs by Adele. \nAmber Rose and The Renegades official website \nMeet the Band\nThe five-piece lineup combines musicians with experience in several established regional bands. \nAmber Rose handles lead vocals and serves as the group’s frontwoman. \nGuitarist Bob Hughes previously performed with Rhode Island bands Eyewitness and Zink Alloy. His role with The Renegades ranges from melodic guitar parts to the heavier solos needed for the band’s classic-rock material. \nRay D’Amico is behind the drums and also manages the band’s bookings. D’Amico previously played with Steve Smith and currently performs with Steve Smith and the Nakeds\, a longtime fixture of the Rhode Island music scene. \nKeyboardist Keith Denton plays piano\, organ and synthesizer and previously performed with Archives and Zink Alloy\, along with appearances with What Matters? \nBassist Joe Ortoleva completes the rhythm section and brings experience from groups including Kharisma\, Keturah’s Dream and Rough and Ready. \nWhat You’ll Hear\nThe band’s song selection is designed more like a rock playlist than a tightly defined tribute show. \nThat opens the door to music spanning several generations. The common denominator is a set built for a live crowd\, with prominent vocals\, guitar solos and recognizable songs that give people a reason to get out of their seats. \nAmber Rose’s voice also gives the group room to explore some of rock’s most distinctive female-fronted material. Songs associated with Janis Joplin\, Grace Slick and Heart require considerably different vocal approaches\, while newer material expands the show beyond a straightforward classic-rock night. \nDinner and Music at the Rathskeller\nThe Charlestown Rathskeller sits among the trees on Old Coach Road\, away from the busier commercial stretches of South County. \nGuests can arrive before the show for dinner and drinks\, then head outside for the concert. The grounds include outdoor seating\, fire pits and lawn games\, making the evening feel closer to a backyard summer concert than a conventional indoor club show. \nThe band performs from 8 to 11 p.m. \nTickets\nAdvance tickets are $10 plus Eventbrite fees. \nAdmission at the door is $15\, subject to availability. \nThe event has a no-refund policy. \nEvent Details\nDate\nSaturday\, August 15\, 2026 \nTime\n8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. \nLocation\nThe Charlestown Rathskeller \nAddress\n489A Old Coach Road\nCharlestown\, RI 02813 \nAdmission\n$10 advance plus ticketing fees\n$15 at the door \nEntertainment\nAmber Rose and The Renegades \nFood & Drinks\nAvailable for purchase at the Rathskeller. \nSetting\nOutdoor live music on the Rathskeller’s wooded grounds. \nRefund Policy\nNo refunds. \nImportant Notes\nGuests planning to have dinner or drinks before the concert should arrive before the 8 p.m. performance. SUMMARY:The Earl Knightwood Band at the Rathskeller
DESCRIPTION:The Earl Knightwood Band at the Rathskeller brings New Orleans funk\, R&B\, soul\, and modern blues to Charlestown on Sunday\, August 16\, for an afternoon performance on the Down Back Stage. The Providence-based band takes the stage at 4 p.m.\, bringing together veteran Rhode Island musicians whose backgrounds stretch from local hall-of-fame bands to touring and recording work with Clarence Clemons. (Earl Knightwood Band) \nThis isn’t a tribute band\, although you’ll hear plenty of musical history running through the show. The Earl Knightwood Band draws from the groove-heavy sounds of New Orleans\, Memphis soul\, rhythm and blues\, jazz\, and funk\, with multiple vocalists and a lineup built to move comfortably between those styles. \nThe Rathskeller is almost as much a part of the experience as the band. Its Down Back venue sits behind the restaurant among the trees\, with a stage\, outdoor bars\, a burger shack\, a huge fire pit\, and lawn games spread across the grounds. It’s a relaxed setting for a Sunday afternoon show\, and guests can come early for lunch before heading out back for the music. (Charlestown Rathskeller) \nAbout The Earl Knightwood Band\nThe Earl Knightwood Band is based in Providence and describes its musical territory as R&B\, New Orleans music\, funk\, soul\, and the bluesier side of jazz. \nThere’s considerable Rhode Island music history within the group. \nGuitarist and vocalist Ed Vallee is a Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame inductee for his work with The Young Adults\, the Providence-area band that developed a devoted following during the late 1970s and early ’80s. Vallee later played guitar on recordings and tours with legendary E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons. \nKeyboardist and vocalist Frank Rapone is also a Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame inductee as a founding member of Steve Smith & The Nakeds. Like Vallee\, Rapone performed behind Clemons during his work outside Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. Rapone and Vallee came together in 2019 to form the current Earl Knightwood lineup. \nMeet the Band\nPaula Clare handles lead vocals. Before settling in Rhode Island\, Clare lived in Chicago and Los Angeles and worked as an actress in film and television. She later returned to music as a singer and songwriter. \nChris O’Donnell handles drums and vocals. His background includes study with jazz musicians Ernie Watts and Jerry Bergonzi\, along with work as a drummer and arranger with The Duende Project. \nDave McCarthy brings a classical contrabass background to the electric bass\, but his playing with Earl Knightwood moves from New Orleans grooves to Memphis-style soul. His touring experience includes opening dates for Delbert McClinton and Hootie & The Blowfish with Rockin’ Soul Horns. \nGuitarist and vocalist Bill Lehourites is another familiar name in Rhode Island’s blues\, rock\, and soul community\, performing with Earl Knightwood as well as Take It To The Bridge and hosting regional jam sessions. \nTogether\, the musicians give Earl Knightwood considerably more range than a straightforward blues band. \nThe Earl Knightwood Band official website \nWhat You’ll Hear\nExpect a show driven more by groove than genre labels. \nNew Orleans funk and R&B sit at the center\, but the band also moves into soul\, modern blues\, and jazz-influenced material. Multiple singers and experienced instrumentalists give the group room to change direction throughout a set rather than locking into one sound for the afternoon. \nFor listeners who enjoy the intersection where blues starts getting funkier\, soul gets heavier\, and jazz loosens its tie a little\, this is the neighborhood Earl Knightwood occupies. \nA Rathskeller Tradition Since 1933\nThe Charlestown Rathskeller has a history considerably longer than its summer concert series. \nThe restaurant traces its roots to 1933\, when the property began life as a speakeasy. It has since evolved into a restaurant\, tavern\, and entertainment destination tucked into the woods along Old Coach Road. \nBehind the restaurant is Down Back\, the Rathskeller’s seasonal outdoor music venue. The grounds include the concert stage\, patio seating\, bocce and cornhole\, two outdoor bars\, a large fire pit\, and the Down Back Burger Shack. Concerts run regularly from May into the fall\, featuring regional performers along with nationally touring acts. \nThat history and setting help explain why the Rathskeller feels less like a conventional concert venue and more like somebody built a stage in the middle of a very large backyard. \nSeating at Down Back\nSeating for Rathskeller concerts is first come\, first served and festival-style. \nA ticket to a paid performance does not reserve a particular table or seat. The Rathskeller presents both free and ticketed shows throughout the season\, so guests should check the individual event listing for admission information. \nFor the August 16 performance\, arriving early also gives you time to have lunch or grab something from the bar before the 4 p.m. start. \nFood\, Drinks and Lawn Games\nThe Rathskeller serves lunch and dinner on Sundays\, with the kitchen open from noon to 10 p.m. \nGuests heading Down Back can also find the Burger Shack and outdoor bars near the music venue. Bocce and cornhole are available on the grounds\, and the large central fire pit becomes part of the scene as summer evenings cool down. \nEvent Details\nDate\nSunday\, August 16\, 2026 \nTime\n4:00 p.m. \nLocation\nRathskeller Down Back at The Charlestown Rathskeller \nAddress\n489A Old Coach Road\nCharlestown\, RI 02813 \nEntertainment\nThe Earl Knightwood Band \nMusic\nR&B\, New Orleans funk\, soul\, modern blues\, and jazz-influenced music \nSeating\nFirst come\, first served\, festival-style seating.

SUMMARY:Affinity: A Tribute to Journey at the Charlestown Rathskeller
DESCRIPTION:Affinity: A Tribute to Journey at the Charlestown Rathskeller brings three hours of arena-rock favorites to the Rathskeller’s outdoor Down Back stage on Saturday\, August 22. \nThe show runs from 8 to 11 p.m.\, with advance tickets priced at $10 plus fees and admission at the door priced at $15. Guests can come early for dinner and drinks before heading outside for a night built around the soaring vocals\, guitar solos and power ballads that made Journey one of the defining rock bands of the late 1970s and 1980s. \nA Night of Journey Classics\nAffinity is a tribute band dedicated to recreating the sound and energy of Journey\, with a show centered on the band’s biggest stadium hits and ballads. \nJourney’s catalog gives the group plenty to work with. Fans can expect a night drawing from the era that produced songs such as “Separate Ways\,” “Any Way You Want It\,” “Open Arms\,” “Faithfully” and\, of course\, “Don’t Stop Believin’.” \nAffinity’s approach focuses on the familiar melodies\, big choruses and guitar-driven sound that helped turn Journey into an arena-rock powerhouse and continue to make its songs staples of classic-rock radio. \nFor longtime fans\, it’s a chance to hear that music live again. For everyone else\, it’s hard to imagine getting through three hours of Journey without eventually singing along. \nAn Outdoor Concert in the Woods\nThe setting is a significant part of this particular show. \nThe Charlestown Rathskeller has been tucked into the woods along Old Coach Road since 1933\, beginning life during the speakeasy era before evolving into a restaurant\, tavern and entertainment destination. \nBehind the restaurant is Down Back\, the Rathskeller’s seasonal outdoor entertainment area. The park-like grounds include a concert stage\, outdoor bars\, patio seating\, a large fire pit and lawn games including bocce and cornhole. \nLive music takes over the space throughout the warmer months\, with a schedule mixing regional bands\, touring performers and tribute acts. \nIt creates a much different atmosphere from seeing a Journey tribute inside a traditional theater. Trees surround the grounds\, people can grab something to eat or drink\, and the evening feels closer to a big backyard concert than an arena show. \nCome Early for Dinner\nThe Rathskeller operates as a full restaurant in addition to hosting live entertainment\, making dinner before the concert an easy addition to the evening. \nThe menu leans toward hearty tavern food\, including burgers and sandwiches\, steaks\, seafood and shareable appetizers. Guests can arrive well before Affinity takes the stage\, eat inside or enjoy the outdoor setting\, then stay for the concert. \nWith the show scheduled for three hours\, arriving early also gives guests time to settle in before the music starts rather than trying to find their place as the band takes the stage. \nWhat to Know About Down Back\nConcert seating at Down Back is festival-style and first-come\, first-served. Purchasing admission gets you into the performance but does not reserve a particular table or seat. \nGuests hoping to find a comfortable spot for the evening should consider arriving early\, particularly for a Saturday night tribute show. \nThe Rathskeller presents a combination of free and ticketed concerts throughout its outdoor season. Affinity is one of its ticketed Saturday-night performances\, with the lower advance price offering an incentive to make plans before arriving at the door. \nEvent Details\nEvent: Affinity: A Tribute to Journey\nDate: Saturday\, August 22\, 2026\nTime: 8–11 p.m.\nAdvance Tickets: $10 plus fees\nAt the Door: $15\nLocation: The Charlestown Rathskeller – Down Back\nAddress: 489A Old Coach Road\, Charlestown\, RI 02813 \nTickets are non-refundable. SUMMARY:UnderEstimated Prophet at the Charlestown Rathskeller
DESCRIPTION:UnderEstimated Prophet at the Charlestown Rathskeller brings an afternoon of Grateful Dead music\, extended jams and improvisation to the Rathskeller’s outdoor Down Back stage on Sunday\, August 23. \nThe six-piece regional band performs from 4 to 7 p.m.\, with advance tickets priced at $10 plus fees and admission at the door priced at $15. \nIt’s an early Sunday show designed for exactly the kind of setting the Rathskeller provides: music outside beneath the trees\, something to eat and drink nearby\, and three hours for the band to stretch well beyond the confines of the original recordings. \nKeeping the Grateful Dead Tradition Alive\nUnderEstimated Prophet is a six-piece band dedicated to performing the music of the Grateful Dead\, but that doesn’t mean simply reproducing studio recordings note for note. \nImprovisation was fundamental to the Dead. Songs could change dramatically from one performance to another\, with extended instrumental passages connecting songs and allowing the musicians to follow one another into unexpected territory. \nUnderEstimated Prophet embraces that approach with a jam-forward live show built around the Dead’s extensive catalog. \nThat gives the band decades of music to explore\, from psychedelic rock and blues to folk\, country and Americana. The familiar songs provide the framework. What happens between and inside them is where a Dead tribute can become something different every time it takes the stage. \nWhat’s in a Name?\nDeadheads should recognize the band’s name immediately. \n“Estimated Prophet” appeared on the Grateful Dead’s 1977 album Terrapin Station and became a regular part of the band’s live repertoire. Written by Bob Weir and John Perry Barlow\, the song was frequently used as a launching point for the kind of extended improvisation that became a hallmark of Grateful Dead concerts. \nUnderEstimated Prophet adds a playful twist to that title while making the band’s musical allegiance pretty difficult to miss. \nThe group has developed a regional following by focusing on both the songs and communal atmosphere surrounding the Dead’s music. The goal isn’t elaborate impersonation. It’s recreating the experience of musicians and an audience sharing an unpredictable live performance. \nThree Hours Leaves Room to Jam\nA three-hour afternoon performance gives UnderEstimated Prophet room to work. \nGrateful Dead music lends itself particularly well to longer sets because songs don’t necessarily exist as isolated performances. One can dissolve into an instrumental passage before gradually revealing the beginning of another. \nThat makes Sunday’s show different from a conventional tribute concert built around squeezing as many recognizable hits as possible into a fixed set. \nFans can certainly expect familiar Dead material\, but the appeal is just as much about where the band takes it. \nAnd if you’ve never understood why someone would follow the Grateful Dead from city to city listening to many of the same songs\, a live jam-oriented tribute provides a pretty good introduction. The songs may be familiar. The performance isn’t supposed to be. \nSunday Afternoon Down Back\nThe setting should suit the music particularly well. \nThe Charlestown Rathskeller’s Down Back outdoor entertainment area sits behind the historic tavern on its wooded Old Coach Road property. \nThe grounds have the feel of a small park\, with an outdoor stage surrounded by trees along with bars\, seating\, a fire pit and lawn games including bocce and cornhole. \nThroughout the warmer months\, Down Back hosts regional bands\, touring musicians and tribute acts. \nSunday’s 4 p.m. start also changes the feel from a typical nighttime concert. Guests can arrive for lunch\, grab a drink and settle outside before the band begins\, with the performance running into the early evening. \nA Charlestown Landmark Since 1933\nThe Rathskeller itself has been part of Charlestown since 1933\, giving the property a history extending back to the Prohibition era. \nToday\, the restaurant and tavern combine that rustic setting with a full food menu and a substantial seasonal live-music schedule. \nThe menu features tavern favorites including burgers and sandwiches along with steaks\, seafood and shareable dishes\, making it easy to turn the concert into an afternoon of lunch\, drinks and music rather than treating it as a stand-alone performance. \nConcert seating Down Back is festival-style and first-come\, first-served. Admission does not reserve a particular table or seat\, so guests who want to settle into a preferred spot should consider arriving before the music begins. \nEvent Details\nEvent: UnderEstimated Prophet\nDate: Sunday\, August 23\, 2026\nTime: 4–7 p.m.\nAdvance Tickets: $10 plus fees\nAt the Door: $15\nLocation: The Charlestown Rathskeller – Down Back\nAddress: 489A Old Coach Road\, Charlestown\, RI 02813 \nTickets are non-refundable. SUMMARY:Nick Bosse & The Northern Roots at the Charlestown Rathskeller
DESCRIPTION:Nick Bosse & The Northern Roots at the Charlestown Rathskeller on Friday\, August 28\, for a summer night of live music in the woods. \nThe North Stonington singer-songwriter and his band take the Rathskeller’s outdoor stage from 8 to 11 p.m.\, just one night after performing at the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun. \nTickets are $15 in advance\, plus fees\, or $20 at the door. \nA Country Singer from North Stonington\nBosse’s path into country music began close to home. \nThe North Stonington native started performing cover gigs in local bars around 2013 before forming The Northern Roots with drummer John Spaulding the following year. What began on small southeastern Connecticut stages gradually developed into a regional act performing at casinos\, festivals\, fairs\, vineyards and concert series throughout New England. \nBosse describes himself as a Nashville recording artist\, but his musical identity remains firmly connected to New England. \nHis influences reach back to Merle Haggard\, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash while incorporating newer artists such as Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers. Southern rock and bluegrass fill out a sound that’s considerably rougher around the edges than contemporary pop-country. \nWhat Happened to Country?\nIf there’s one song that explains what Bosse is trying to do\, its title nearly does the job by itself. \n“What Happened to Country” was released in 2021 and grew into his breakout recording\, eventually surpassing 2 million streams on Spotify. \nThe song pushes back against the increasingly polished and commercial direction of mainstream country music while looking toward the storytelling and working-class character Bosse associates with the genre’s past. \nThat attitude runs through much of his music. \nBosse isn’t trying to reproduce vintage country note for note. The Northern Roots can move from traditional country into southern rock and bluegrass\, but those older influences remain underneath it. \nThe Northern Roots Bring the Muscle\nThe Northern Roots turn Bosse’s songwriting into a full-band experience. \nThroughout the group’s history\, its arrangements have incorporated instruments including fiddle\, pedal steel\, banjo\, harmonica\, mandolin and upright bass alongside guitar and drums. \nThat broader musical palette gives the band room to move. \nA song can begin in traditional country territory before the guitars push it toward southern rock\, while another can lean into the acoustic textures of bluegrass and roots music. \nIt’s also what separates a Nick Bosse solo appearance from a Northern Roots show. The songs remain at the center\, but the full band is built for a Friday night crowd. \nFrom the Wolf Den to the Woods\nThe Charlestown concert comes during a particularly good two-night run for Bosse and the band. \nOn Thursday\, August 27\, Nick Bosse & The Northern Roots perform a free concert at the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun. \nTwenty-four hours later\, they cross the Rhode Island state line and head into the woods at the Charlestown Rathskeller. \nThe settings couldn’t be much more different. \nThe Wolf Den sits in the middle of the Casino of the Earth at one of New England’s largest entertainment resorts. The Rathskeller offers an outdoor stage behind a historic tavern surrounded by trees\, with a backyard bar\, food\, games and a bonfire nearby. \nSame band. Very different Friday night. \nFrom a 1933 Speakeasy to a Charlestown Landmark\nThe Charlestown Rathskeller has its own story. \nThe tavern dates to 1933 and traces its beginnings to a speakeasy\, giving the property nearly a century of history as a gathering place in Charlestown. \nRemnants of that past remain inside\, including old murals in the dining room\, but the modern Rathskeller has expanded well beyond the original tavern. \nIts wooded property has become a warm-weather destination for food\, drinks\, outdoor games and live music. \nGuests coming for Friday’s concert can arrive early for dinner and drinks before heading out back for the show. \nHead “Down Back”\nThe Rathskeller calls its outdoor entertainment area “Down Back.” \nRather than a conventional theater or nightclub\, the space feels more like a sprawling backyard gathering built around live music. \nThere’s an outdoor stage\, backyard bar and burger shack\, along with a bonfire and lawn games including cornhole and bocce. \nThroughout the warmer months\, the Rathskeller uses Down Back for regional country\, rock\, tribute and party bands. \nIt’s difficult to imagine a much more natural setting for The Northern Roots. \nA country band with southern rock and bluegrass running through its music gets a stage in the woods\, a crowd with drinks in hand and three hours to stretch out. \nA Growing New England Following\nBosse has steadily expanded his audience beyond southeastern Connecticut. \nHis performances have included headlining appearances at both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods\, along with shows at festivals and venues throughout the region. He has also been recognized as Male Performer of the Year by the New England Music Awards. \nBut the band’s local and regional shows remain a major part of its identity. \nThat makes the Rathskeller date less about a Connecticut musician visiting Rhode Island and more about a regional act playing in its own backyard. The state line is only a few miles away\, and The Northern Roots have drawn musicians and audiences from both Connecticut and Rhode Island. \nDinner First\, Boots Later\nThe Friday-night setup makes this an easy event to turn into an evening rather than simply a three-hour concert. \nThe Rathskeller encourages concertgoers to arrive early for dinner and drinks before heading Down Back for the performance. \nAdvance tickets cost $15 plus fees. Tickets at the door are $20\, subject to availability. \nThe event has a no-refund policy. \nThen\, from 8 to 11 p.m.\, the focus moves to Nick Bosse & The Northern Roots. \nExpect original songs\, country storytelling and a sound that can wander from Waylon Jennings territory toward southern rock without losing sight of where it started. \nAfter all\, Bosse built one of his biggest songs around a question. \nWhat happened to country? \nFriday night in the Charlestown woods might offer his answer. \nEvent Details\nEvent: Nick Bosse & Northern Roots at the Charlestown Rathskeller 2026\nDate: Friday\, August 28\, 2026\nTime: 8–11 p.m.\nLocation: The Charlestown Rathskeller\nAddress: 489A Old Coach Road\, Charlestown\, RI 02813\nTickets: $15 online plus fees; $20 at the door\nRefunds: No refunds\nPerformer: Nick Bosse & The Northern Roots\nMusic: Country\, southern rock\, roots and bluegrass influences\nSetting: Outdoor live music at the Rathskeller’s Down Back entertainment area \nGuests can arrive early for dinner and drinks at the Rathskeller before heading Down Back for the concert. \nMore information is available at the Event Website link below. \nTo purchase tickets\, click the Event Ticketing link below. \n  \nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown. \n

SUMMARY:Steve Smith & The Nakeds at the Charlestown Rathskeller
DESCRIPTION:Steve Smith & The Nakeds at the Charlestown Rathskeller on Saturday\, August 29\, for a night of rhythm and blues\, rock & roll\, soul and a whole lot of horns. \nThe 10-piece band takes the Rathskeller’s outdoor stage from 8 to 11 p.m. with a lineup built around frontman Steve Smith\, a four-piece rhythm section and five-piece horn section. \nTickets are $10 in advance\, plus fees\, or $15 at the door. \nA Rhode Island Band Since 1973\nCalling Steve Smith & The Nakeds a longtime New England band almost undersells it. \nThe group traces its beginnings to 1973\, when it was known as Naked Truth. More than five decades later\, Smith is still leading a large-format band through the R&B\, soul and rock & roll that first inspired him. \nSmith grew up in Smithfield\, Rhode Island\, in a musical family. He is a first cousin of John Cafferty\, who would go on to lead John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band. \nSome of Smith’s earliest performances were considerably less glamorous. \nAs children spending summers at Roy Carpenter’s Beach in Matunuck\, members of the family would stage talent shows inside their beach cottage. Smith remembers performing in front of the refrigerator. \nEventually\, the audience got bigger. \nMuch bigger. \nTen Musicians and Five Horns\nAt a time when economics have pushed many touring bands toward smaller lineups\, The Nakeds have held onto the big-band sound that has defined them. \nThe current 10-piece lineup puts Smith on vocals and harmonica in front of guitar\, bass\, keyboards and drums. \nThen come the horns. \nTrumpet. Trombone. Alto saxophone. Tenor saxophone. Baritone saxophone. \nFive of them. \nThat combination allows the band to move through R&B\, soul and rock & roll with the kind of brass arrangements that would be impossible for a typical four-piece bar band to reproduce. \nThe result isn’t designed for sitting quietly with your hands folded. \nThis is dance music. \nWhen the Big Man Joined the Band\nOne of the most important chapters in The Nakeds’ history began with Clarence Clemons. \nBest known as the towering saxophonist beside Bruce Springsteen in the E Street Band\, Clemons developed a long musical relationship with Steve Smith & The Nakeds beginning in the 1980s. \nAnd this wasn’t simply a case of a famous musician sitting in for a song one night. \nWhen Clemons wasn’t touring with Springsteen\, he performed extensively with The Nakeds. The relationship lasted from roughly 1983 until Clemons’ death in 2011\, with shows sometimes billed as Steve Smith & The Nakeds featuring Clarence Clemons. \nClemons also worked with the group in the studio. \nThe connection brought The Nakeds into the orbit of other E Street musicians as well. They performed alongside guitarist Nils Lofgren and bassist Garry Tallent\, while Lofgren and Clemons contributed material to the band’s recordings. \nFrom The Temptations to a President\nMore than 50 years of performing has produced an unusual résumé. \nThe Nakeds have shared stages with artists including The Temptations and Gary U.S. Bonds and performed with musicians from Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. \nSmith also performed for President Bill Clinton during the 1990s. \nThe band became a fixture on the New England live-music circuit while periodically finding its way onto much larger stages and into national media. \nThen came MTV. \nAnd eventually\, a cartoon baby with a British accent. \nThe Strange Second Life of “I’m Huge”\nThe Nakeds recorded “I’m Huge (And the Babes Go Wild)” during the 1980s. \nYears later\, the song unexpectedly resurfaced when it appeared in an episode of Family Guy in 2008. \nFor a band already decades into its career\, the placement introduced The Nakeds to an entirely new audience. Renewed online attention helped lead to a distribution relationship with Sony and gave the group’s recordings another life long after their original release. \nIt wasn’t their first encounter with television. The band had previously appeared through MTV’s Basement Tapes during the music channel’s early years. \nTheir music has also found its way into films\, including Dumb and Dumber To and The Greatest Beer Run Ever. \nNot bad mileage for a Rhode Island horn band that started in 1973. \nThe Night Bill Murray Joined In\nThere’s another story that sounds almost too perfect for this band’s history. \nIn 2019\, filmmaker Peter Farrelly brought Bill Murray to see Steve Smith & The Nakeds perform at Roy Carpenter’s Beach in Matunuck. \nMurray didn’t simply watch. \nHe joined the band. \nFor Smith\, it brought the story around in a peculiar circle. He was back at the same beach where he’d spent childhood summers performing in family talent shows decades earlier. \nExcept this time there was a professional band behind him. \nAnd Bill Murray had wandered onto the stage. \nRhode Island Music Hall of Fame\nBy 2013\, the band’s place in Rhode Island music history was formally recognized when Steve Smith & The Nakeds were inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame. \nThe Rhode Island House of Representatives also recognized the group for the honor. \nThe induction acknowledged something that becomes increasingly difficult to ignore with each passing year: The Nakeds haven’t merely survived changes in musical taste\, venues and the business of performing. \nThey’ve kept working. \nMore than five decades after the first version of the band came together\, the calendar still fills with concerts. \nSmith has summed up his retirement plan with a wonderfully uncomplicated phrase: \n“’Til the phone stops ringing.” \nApparently\, it hasn’t. \nSaturday Night Down Back\nFor the August 29 show\, The Nakeds head to the Charlestown Rathskeller’s outdoor entertainment area known as Down Back. \nThe setting includes an outdoor stage\, backyard bar and burger shack surrounded by the Rathskeller’s wooded Charlestown property. There’s a bonfire nearby along with lawn games including cornhole and bocce. \nIt’s intentionally more backyard party than formal concert venue. \nThat should suit this particular band just fine. \nGuests can arrive early for dinner and drinks before heading Down Back for the show. \nOnce 10 musicians take the stage and five horns start competing with one another for oxygen\, the quiet part of the evening is probably over. \nFifty-Three Years and Still Dancing\nLongevity in music can sometimes turn a band into a museum piece\, faithfully recreating what it did decades earlier for an audience that remembers the first time around. \nThe Nakeds have taken a different route. \nThe history is there. Clarence Clemons is part of it. So are MTV\, Family Guy\, Bill Murray\, the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame and thousands of nights spent on stages around New England. \nBut none of that matters much if the band can’t still make a Saturday-night crowd move. \nThat’s the test waiting Down Back at the Rathskeller. \nTen musicians. \nFive horns. \nFifty-three years. \nAnd three more hours to play. \nEvent Details\nEvent: Steve Smith & The Nakeds at the Charlestown Rathskeller 2026\nDate: Saturday\, August 29\, 2026\nTime: 8–11 p.m.\nLocation: The Charlestown Rathskeller\nAddress: 489A Old Coach Road\, Charlestown\, RI 02813\nTickets: $10 online plus fees; $15 at the door\nRefunds: No refunds\nPerformer: Steve Smith & The Nakeds\nMusic: R&B\, soul and rock & roll\nBand: 10-piece ensemble with a five-piece horn section\nSetting: Outdoor performance at the Rathskeller’s Down Back entertainment area \nGuests can arrive early for dinner and drinks before the concert. \nMore information is available at the Event Website link below. \nTo purchase tickets\, click the Event Ticketing link below. \n\n  \nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown. \n

SUMMARY:Howlin’ Rhodes at the Rathskeller
DESCRIPTION:Howlin’ Rhodes at the Rathskeller on Sunday\, August 30\, for a free afternoon of blues\, classic rock and roots music in the woods. \nThe band performs from 4 to 7 p.m.\, closing out the Rathskeller’s August live-music schedule with the kind of relaxed Sunday show that has become a regular part of the venue’s summer season. \nAdmission is free\, and guests can arrive early for lunch and drinks before heading Down Back for the music. \nA Little Blues\, a Little Rock & Roll\nHowlin’ Rhodes is a Rhode Island-area working band whose music crosses several familiar American styles rather than staying planted in one genre. \nThe Rathskeller describes the group as mixing blues\, classic rock and roots music\, with vocals and guitar driving a show designed more for an afternoon crowd looking to move and have some fun than a quiet listening room. \nThat makes the band a natural fit for a Sunday afternoon Down Back. \nThis isn’t a tribute act devoted to recreating one artist or album. Instead\, Howlin’ Rhodes draws from the broader territory where blues\, rock and roots music have spent decades borrowing from one another. \nIt’s familiar music without being tied to a single songbook. \nBack for Another Sunday\nAugust 30 isn’t Howlin’ Rhodes’ first trip to the Rathskeller this summer. \nThe band previously played Down Back on Sunday\, July 19\, also in the 4 to 7 p.m. afternoon slot. The return engagement comes just six weeks later. \nThat afternoon schedule creates a different experience from the Rathskeller’s Friday and Saturday night concerts. \nYou don’t have to wait until dark. \nGrab lunch. Find a drink. Head outside. Then you’ve got three hours of live music before Sunday evening arrives. \nDown Back in the Woods\nThe Charlestown Rathskeller has been part of the Rhode Island landscape since 1933\, but much of its warm-weather personality now lives outside the original tavern. \nBehind the restaurant is Down Back\, the Rathskeller’s seasonal outdoor entertainment area. \nThe wooded grounds combine live music with a casual backyard atmosphere that includes lawn games such as cornhole and bocce\, outdoor gathering areas and a large fire pit. Seating for performances is first-come\, first-served rather than reserved. \nIt feels considerably less like walking into a concert venue and more like discovering a party behind a tavern in the woods. \nFor blues and roots music on a Sunday afternoon\, that’s not a bad place to land. \nMake an Afternoon of It\nThe Rathskeller opens at noon on Sundays\, four hours before Howlin’ Rhodes begins playing. \nThat leaves plenty of time to arrive early for lunch before the show. The tavern’s menu leans into hearty pub food\, with burgers\, wings\, seafood and its well-known lineup of fries and other shareable dishes. \nThe kitchen remains open until 10 p.m. on Sunday\, as does the tavern itself. \nThe concert doesn’t require a paid ticket. \nAdmission is free. \nOne More August Afternoon\nThe August 30 appearance also gives Howlin’ Rhodes the final Sunday slot on a busy month of Rathskeller music. \nAugust’s Down Back calendar has moved through country\, tribute bands\, jam music\, R&B\, soul and rock & roll before arriving at Howlin’ Rhodes for the final afternoon of the month. \nNo elaborate production is necessary for this one. \nIt’s Sunday afternoon. The band’s outside. The trees surround the stage. Food and drinks are a few steps away. \nAnd it doesn’t cost anything to wander Down Back and listen. \nEvent Details\nEvent: Howlin’ Rhodes at the Charlestown Rathskeller 2026\nDate: Sunday\, August 30\, 2026\nTime: 4–7 p.m.\nLocation: The Charlestown Rathskeller\nAddress: 489A Old Coach Road\, Charlestown\, RI 02813\nAdmission: Free\nMusic: Blues\, classic rock and roots music\nSetting: Outdoor live music Down Back\nSunday Hours: Noon–10 p.m.\nKitchen: Open until 10 p.m. \nHowlin’ Rhodes returns to the Rathskeller for a free three-hour Sunday afternoon performance combining blues\, classic rock and roots music. \nMore information is available at the Event Website link below. \n  \nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown. \n
