SUMMARY:Beer’d Brewing Märzen Release Party
DESCRIPTION:Beer’d Brewing Märzen Release Party brings a full day of beer\, food\, and Oktoberfest-inspired fun to The Velvet Mill in Stonington on Saturday\, September 5. \nThe Labor Day weekend release party runs from noon to 9 p.m. at Beer’d Brewing Co.’s original Stonington taproom at 22 Bayview Avenue. The brewery will introduce its Märzen while adding food from three fellow Velvet Mill businesses and a stein-holding competition to the celebration. \nThe event gives Beer’d a chance to welcome the approaching Oktoberfest season with a style of beer that has deep roots in German brewing tradition. \nBeer’d Releases Its Märzen\nThe centerpiece of the September 5 party is the release of Beer’d Brewing’s Märzen. \nMärzen is a traditional German lager style historically associated with Bavaria and Oktoberfest. The name translates to “March\,” a reference to the time of year when the beer was traditionally brewed before the warmer months made lager production more difficult. \nThe beer would then be stored\, or lagered\, through the summer. By fall\, those remaining Märzen supplies were ready to be consumed\, helping create the style’s lasting association with Oktoberfest. \nModern Märzens are generally known for their amber-to-copper color and malt-forward character\, with toasted and bread-like flavors balanced by enough hops to keep the beer from becoming overly sweet. \nBeer’d has not packed the announcement with tasting notes or technical specifications for its version. Instead\, the September 5 party is centered on giving people their first opportunity to try the brewery’s Märzen at the source. \nA Different Kind of Beer’d Release\nBeer’d Brewing has become particularly well known for hop-forward beers\, making a traditional German-inspired lager an interesting change of pace for the Stonington brewery. \nBeer’d was founded in 2012 and began brewing at The Velvet Mill\, the sprawling former textile complex in Stonington Borough that has since become home to artists\, makers\, restaurants\, food businesses and other independent operations. \nThe brewery later expanded with The Silo\, its production brewery and second taproom in Groton. \nThe Stonington location\, however\, remains the original Beer’d. \nThat makes The Mill an appropriate setting for a release party built around one beer and the community of businesses surrounding the brewery. \nFood From Around The Velvet Mill\nBeer’d doesn’t operate a conventional restaurant kitchen at its Stonington taproom\, but that isn’t much of an obstacle inside The Velvet Mill. \nFor the Märzen party\, Beer’d is bringing in food from Dock 9\, Meryl + Masa and Zest Fresh Pastry\, all of which are located within the same 22 Bayview Avenue complex. \nDock 9 operates as a restaurant and cocktail bar inside the mill. \nMeryl + Masa combines a sourdough bakery with Latin-inspired food\, while Zest Fresh Pastry has been a longtime destination inside The Velvet Mill for pastries\, baked goods and sweets. \nHaving all three participate makes the release party as much a Velvet Mill collaboration as a brewery event. \nIt also fits the unusual nature of the building itself. Visitors can move among studios\, shops\, restaurants and food businesses without leaving the former mill complex\, making Beer’d part of a larger destination rather than an isolated taproom. \nTest Your Grip in the Stein-Holding Competition\nThe party also includes a stein-holding competition\, borrowing another tradition closely associated with Oktoberfest celebrations. \nThe challenge looks deceptively simple. \nCompetitors hold a filled beer stein straight out in front of them\, keeping the arm extended without bending the elbow or lowering the glass. As the seconds turn into minutes\, the weight becomes considerably less forgiving. \nThe last competitor maintaining the required position wins. \nBeer’d hasn’t announced additional competition details in its event promotion\, so anyone hoping to participate can get the specific rules and signup information at the brewery during the event. \nThe Velvet Mill Adds to the Day\nA Saturday event at Beer’d also comes with something that isn’t technically part of the release party. \nThe Stonington Village Farmers’ Market takes place at The Velvet Mill every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. \nDuring the warmer months\, the market operates outside at the mill and brings together area farmers\, food producers and other vendors. \nThat means September 5 has the potential to turn into a much longer Velvet Mill visit. \nThe farmers market runs through noon. \nBeer’d’s Märzen party begins at noon. \nFrom there\, the brewery keeps the celebration going until 9 p.m. \nThe building itself dates to the late 19th century\, when Stonington became an important center for velvet manufacturing. Today\, the former industrial property has been repurposed as a mixed-use community of small businesses\, artists\, food producers and makers. \nBeer’d has become one of its best-known tenants. \nA September Beer With a Long History\nThe timing of the release isn’t accidental. \nAlthough Oktoberfest is associated with October by name\, Munich’s modern Oktoberfest actually begins in September. The original celebration was held in October 1810\, but the festival gradually moved earlier to take advantage of warmer weather and longer days. \nBeer changed along with it. \nThe darker Märzen that became synonymous with Oktoberfest eventually gave way at the official Munich festival to the lighter Festbier commonly served there today. \nOutside Germany\, however\, Märzen remains strongly associated with American Oktoberfest season. \nThat makes early September prime time for breweries to begin tapping their fall lagers. \nAt Beer’d\, that season begins September 5 in Stonington. \nAn All-Day Release Party\nThis isn’t a short ceremonial tapping followed by business as usual. \nBeer’d is promoting the Märzen release as an all-day party running from noon until 9 p.m. \nThere will be the new beer\, food from Dock 9\, Meryl + Masa and Zest\, and the stein-holding competition. \nAnd because it’s happening inside The Velvet Mill on a Saturday\, visitors can also make the brewery one part of a larger trip through the complex. \nFor Beer’d fans\, though\, the reason for the party is right there in the name. \nA new beer is ready. \nThis time\, it’s a Märzen. \nEvent Details\nEvent: Beer’d Brewing Märzen Release Party\nDate: Saturday\, September 5\, 2026\nTime: Noon–9 p.m.\nVenue: Beer’d Brewing Co. – The Mill\nLocation: The Velvet Mill\nAddress: 22 Bayview Avenue\, Stonington\, CT 06378\nFeatured Release: Beer’d Brewing Märzen\nFood: Dock 9\, Meryl + Masa and Zest Fresh Pastry\nActivity: Stein-holding competition \n  \n  \nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown. \n

SUMMARY:The Grey Sail Fall Market
DESCRIPTION:The Grey Sail Fall Market takes place Sunday\, September 20\, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island in Westerly. The market brings local makers and small businesses together with food\, drinks and live music from Casey Rivers & High Plains\, an elemental folk and Americana band. \nGrey Sail is particularly well suited for this kind of event. Alan and Jennifer Brinton founded the Westerly brewery in 2011\, converting a 1920s building that originally housed the Westerly Macaroni Factory. The first batch of Grey Sail’s Flagship Ale was brewed there on November 11\, 2011. \nToday\, the Canal Street property has grown into considerably more than a production brewery. Next door is Grey Sail’s taproom\, housed in another historic building and surrounded by an outdoor beer garden with picnic and bistro tables\, lawn space\, bocce and cornhole. The taproom serves Grey Sail beers along with wine\, nonalcoholic choices and cocktails from sister company South County Distillers. \nFor the Fall Market\, that indoor-outdoor setup becomes a gathering place for shopping\, food and music as Grey Sail celebrates the beginning of fall. \nThe vendor lineup shown by Grey Sail includes Sun & Sage\, Salty Sea Decor\, Wood & Ink\, Bruto’s Sandwiches\, Pretty & Pink Bakery\, Michelle Zito Art\, Coastal Cure\, Sippy Pretty\, Elegance and Mr.\, Pompelmo Gelateria\, My Claire Marie\, Freedom Farm\, The Cheese Corner\, Coastline Lettering\, Hauser Chocolates\, One of One Athletics\, High Tide Juice Co. and others. \nThe promotional material also lists a food truck\, locally made goods\, cocktails and beer alongside the market vendors. Based on Grey Sail’s current setup\, visitors can expect the event to spread through a space designed for lingering rather than simply walking down a row of vendor tables. Grey Sail describes its property as family-friendly\, with board games and outdoor yard games available. \nEvent Details\nDate: Sunday\, September 20\, 2026\nTime: 1–5 p.m.\nLocation: Grey Sail Brewing\nAddress: 63 Canal Street\, Westerly\, RI\nAdmission: No admission charged\nFeaturing: Local vendors\, food\, beer\, cocktails and live music\nLive Music: Casey Rivers & High Plains \nMore information about the brewery and taproom is available from Grey Sail Brewing. \n

SUMMARY:The Subliminals Bring “Party Jazz” Underground at Tox Brewing
DESCRIPTION:The Subliminals Bring “Party Jazz” Underground at Tox Brewing Friday night\, when the New London instrumental collective takes over The Apothecary for an evening built around jazz\, funk\, and groove rather than the usual brewery soundtrack. \nThe show begins at 8 p.m. Sept. 25 in Tox Brewing Company’s downstairs performance space at 123 Bank Street. \nThe Subliminals have been part of New London’s music ecosystem for years\, but they’re difficult to squeeze into a conventional jazz-band description. Their own shorthand gets closer: music influenced by Herbie Hancock\, Miles Davis\, Roy Hargrove and John Scofield\, played with an emphasis on rhythm and groove. \nElsewhere\, the sound has earned an even simpler description: “party jazz.” \nA Jazz Band Built to Change Shape\nAt the center of The Subliminals are drummer Mike Winslow and guitarist Tom Perrone\, who conceived the project as something closer to a musical collective than a band with an unchanging lineup. \nThat’s important to understanding what happens onstage. \nDepending on the night\, The Subliminals can operate as a compact trio or expand into an ensemble of as many as nine musicians. The lineup shifts\, but the idea remains the same: use jazz as a starting point and build something atmospheric\, rhythmic and accessible around it. \nRather than treating the music like a recital\, the group leans into the parts of modern jazz that make people move. \nHancock is an obvious reference point. His 1970s work helped push jazz decisively toward funk\, electric keyboards and deep rhythmic grooves. Miles Davis was simultaneously tearing apart traditional boundaries between jazz\, rock and electric music\, while later musicians such as Roy Hargrove and John Scofield continued finding ways to move between jazz improvisation\, funk\, soul and groove. \nThat’s the musical neighborhood The Subliminals inhabit. \nIt also means listeners don’t need to be serious jazz aficionados to understand what the band is doing. \nA Band Rooted in New London’s Music Scene\nWinslow’s history helps explain why. \nHe’s moved through several very different corners of southeastern Connecticut’s music community\, performing with groups including Fatal Film\, The Hempsteadys\, Surgery Sessions and 20th Century Kids\, along with earlier work in the funk and groove-rock band Incognito Sofa Love. \nThe Subliminals gave him and Perrone another outlet: a band that could bring together musicians from that broader community and change according to the room\, the players and the night. \nThat makes Friday’s performance particularly well matched to its setting. \nDownstairs at The Apothecary\nTox Brewing itself has undergone a transformation. \nThe brewer moved from its original Broad Street home into a much larger downtown location at 123 Bank Street\, building a brewery\, taproom\, coffee operation and event space around the company’s distinctive science-inspired identity. \nThe name isn’t simply branding. \nTox traces its identity to an interest in toxicology and describes its brewing philosophy as combining the curiosity of scientists with the creativity of artists. Beer becomes an experiment\, customers become collaborators and even the visual language surrounding the brewery draws from poisons\, antidotes\, plants and chemistry. \nThen there’s The Apothecary. \nLocated downstairs from the main taproom\, the space gives Tox a separate room for music and special events\, creating something closer to an intimate underground club than a band performing alongside the regular brewery crowd. \nThat’s where The Subliminals will set up Friday night. \nThere is one accessibility consideration worth knowing beforehand: The Apothecary is downstairs and is accessible only by stairs; there is no elevator to the lower level. \nOne Band\, Two Nights\nFriday won’t be The Subliminals’ only southeastern Connecticut appearance this weekend. \nThe band is also scheduled to play Daniel Packer Inne in Mystic Saturday night\, giving listeners two opportunities to catch the group’s groove-heavy approach to jazz in two very different rooms. \nBut there’s something particularly fitting about Friday’s combination. \nA musical collective built around experimentation playing underneath a brewery that describes every beer as an experiment feels less like a random booking and more like two New London ideas meeting in the same basement. \nMore information is available at the Event Website link below. \nDetails\nEvent: The Subliminals at The Apothecary\nDate: Friday\, Sept. 25\, 2026\nTime: 8 p.m.\nVenue: The Apothecary at Tox Brewing Company\nAddress: 123 Bank Street\, New London\, CT 06320\nMusic: Instrumental jazz\, funk and groove\nAccessibility: The Apothecary is located downstairs and does not have elevator access\nPhone: 860-440-8127 \n  \n  \nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown.
