SUMMARY:Trivia Night at The Jealous Monk
DESCRIPTION:Trivia Night at The Jealous Monk hosts its own version of trivia every Tuesday called Opinionation. Opinionation is a survey-style game where knowledge is only about 1/10 as important as knowing what everyone else is thinking. This free game is played from 7 to 9 p.m. when teams come together to play fun survey questions and guess what every other player thinks. \nOpinionation is a trivia game like no other. Forget historical dates and useless trivia you’ll never remember. With Opinionation\, your team will have to determine the five most popular answers given by players to each question. Each round consists of two segments with several questions. There are also bonus and final rounds that can really change the game. This format allows for lots of giggles\, upsets\, and arguing among teammates. \nGroups of friends\, coworkers\, date night- you name it. Our trivia at The Jealous Monk is great for all ages and skill levels. So whether you’re an expert at trivia or you just enjoy the company\, try your skills at predicting the most popular answer while we keep you guessing. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Glow Nights TreeTrails Adventures
DESCRIPTION:Glow Nights in May brings a completely different atmosphere to TreeTrails Adventures Mystic\, turning the aerial adventure park into a glowing nighttime playground every Friday evening throughout May. Running from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.\, the experience transforms the wooded climbing courses into a colorful mix of lights\, music\, and movement as the sun goes down over Mystic. Instead of the usual daytime ropes-course vibe\, the park takes on the feeling of an outdoor nighttime festival tucked into the trees. \nGlow Nights in May mixes adventure with a party-like atmosphere\, complete with glow bracelets\, glowing necklaces\, music\, and illuminated climbing trails suspended high above the forest floor. Guests can move through rope bridges\, zip lines\, and aerial obstacles while surrounded by shifting lights that make the entire park feel almost dreamlike after dark. The experience leans heavily into the fun of summer nights arriving early\, blending adrenaline and playful energy in a way that feels especially geared toward groups of friends\, couples\, teens\, and adventurous families looking for something different to do on a Friday night. \nThe event has become one of TreeTrails’ most popular seasonal experiences\, especially as warmer weather returns to the Connecticut shoreline region. Reservations are strongly recommended because Glow in the Park nights tend to fill quickly once people start sharing videos and photos online. Between the music drifting through the trees\, the glowing equipment\, and the excitement of climbing through the forest at night\, the event delivers the kind of memorable outdoor experience that feels closer to an adventure attraction than a traditional ropes course. \n

SUMMARY:Taco Tuesday at Milestone Mystic
DESCRIPTION:Taco Tuesday at Milestone Mystic  brings weekly margaritas\, rotatng taco specials\, and waterfront-night-out energy to downtown Mystic every Tuesday starting at 5 p.m. Sitting right along Water Street\, Milestone already carries the kind of lively coastal atmosphere that feels made for warm-weather evenings\, and Taco Tuesday adds an easy excuse to settle in with friends after work or stretch dinner into a full night out. \nTaco Tuesday at Milestone keeps the menu fresh by rotating taco selections each week\, giving regulars something new to look forward to beyond the usual specials. Guests can grab three tacos for $18 while pairing them with $10 margaritas and sangrias or $5 Modelos and Coronas. The combination leans casual and social rather than overcomplicated\, creating the kind of weekly gathering spot where people linger over drinks\, split appetizers\, and watch the evening crowd build as the night goes on. \nThe location itself adds a lot to the experience. Water Street tends to come alive in the evenings during the warmer months\, with visitors moving between restaurants\, bars\, and the nearby waterfront while Mystic’s downtown energy shifts from daytime tourism to nightlife. Taco Tuesday fits naturally into that rhythm\, offering an affordable midweek outing with enough variety to keep locals and visitors coming back throughout the summer season. \n

SUMMARY:Trivia & Taco Tuesday with DJ Trivia RI at Surf Cantina
DESCRIPTION:Trivia & Taco Tuesday with DJ Trivia RI at Surf Cantina turns Tuesday nights in downtown Westerly into a mix of tacos\, drinks\, and friendly competition. With $3 tacos running from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and trivia kicking off at 7 p.m.\, the weekly event blends casual dinner plans with the kind of lively group atmosphere that keeps tables talking\, laughing\, and debating answers long after the first round begins. \nTrivia & Taco Tuesday with DJ Trivia RI brings a more energetic spin to the usual trivia-night format thanks to DJ Trivia’s fast-moving style and crowd interaction. Teams gather around baskets of tacos and drinks while competing through rounds that can shift from pop culture and music to sports\, movies\, and random knowledge. The setup works especially well inside Surf Cantina’s coastal-inspired atmosphere\, where the laid-back vibe keeps the night social even for people who are mostly there for the tacos and margaritas. \nTuesday nights in Westerly tend to feel quieter before the summer weekend crowds fully arrive\, which gives events like this a strong locals-night feel. Surf Cantina’s Canal Street location adds to that energy\, drawing groups of friends\, coworkers\, and trivia regulars looking for an easy midweek outing that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Between the taco specials\, upbeat trivia atmosphere\, and downtown setting\, the night offers a fun excuse to break up the workweek without overcomplicating it. \n

As the first American stop for the exhibition\, Mystic Seaport becomes the latest host for a showcase that has previously appeared at major maritime museums in Europe and Australia. \nThe exhibit features eleven detailed LEGO® models recreating famous shipwrecks and maritime disasters spanning thousands of years\, including the Titanic\, the Vasa\, Franklin’s Arctic expedition ships Terror and Erebus\, and the ancient Uluburun trading vessel. Created in partnership with LEGO® Certified Professional Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught\, the displays combine historical storytelling with surprisingly intricate engineering and visual detail. Some models even include cross-section cutaways revealing what happened beneath the waterline. \nInteractive experiences throughout the exhibit invite visitors to test survival scenarios\, operate a remote underwater vehicle\, experiment with ship stability\, and build LEGO® creations of their own. Alongside the models are replica artifacts\, archaeological tools\, and multimedia displays exploring how modern researchers investigate shipwrecks and what those discoveries reveal about trade\, exploration\, disaster\, and human history. The result is an exhibit that works equally well for families\, history buffs\, LEGO® fans\, and anyone who still secretly wants to touch every museum display. \n

SUMMARY:Watch Hill Merry-Go-Round
DESCRIPTION:Watch Hill Merry-Go-Round begins its regular summer season on June 13\, welcoming families back to one of the most beloved and historic attractions along the Rhode Island shoreline. Located in the heart of Watch Hill\, the carousel has long been woven into the rhythm of summer in the seaside village\, with generations of visitors making a ride part of their annual trips to the coast. As shops\, beaches\, and restaurants fill with early summer crowds\, the opening of the Merry-Go-Round marks another sign that the season is fully underway in SW Rhode Island. \nBelieved to have been built in 1867 by Andrew Christian and the Charles W.F. Dare Co. of New York City\, the Watch Hill Merry-Go-Round is widely considered the oldest continuously operating carousel in the United States. Local legend says a traveling carnival brought the carousel to Watch Hill in 1883 before abandoning it\, allowing the ride to become a permanent part of the village itself. Over the decades\, the carousel survived major storms\, including the devastating Hurricane of 1938\, while remaining one of the area’s most enduring landmarks. \nToday\, the Watch Hill Merry-Go-Round continues to deliver the same nostalgic charm that has drawn families to it for generations. The hand-carved horses\, historic structure\, and coastal surroundings create an experience that feels timeless against the backdrop of Watch Hill’s beaches and waterfront streets. For many visitors\, a ride on the carousel remains one of the defining traditions of summer along the Rhode Island coast. \n

SUMMARY:Luxe CT: Velvet Mills to Modern Runways at Mystic Museum of Art
DESCRIPTION:Luxe CT: Velvet Mills to Modern Runways at Mystic Museum of Art explores the history of textiles in southeastern Connecticut\, tracing how fabrics\, fashion\, and craftsmanship have shaped the region from the precolonial era through the present day. On view from June 26 through October 11\, 2026\, the exhibition brings together historic artifacts and contemporary works to examine how textiles reflect labor\, immigration\, cultural identity\, and changing ideas of luxury. \nInspired by southeastern Connecticut’s once-thriving velvet industry\, the exhibition features a collaboration between Mystic Museum of Art\, Historic Stonington\, Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center\, Mystic Seaport Museum\, and the Connecticut Region of the Studio Art Quilt Associates. Visitors will encounter an extensive collection of beadwork\, embroidery\, quilts\, velvet\, fashion\, and textile art drawn from partner institutions and the museum’s own collection. \nThe exhibition also highlights contemporary fashion designers with Connecticut connections\, including Xarea Lockhart\, Toriana Sauro\, Christian Siriano\, and Peter Som. Their work connects the region’s textile heritage with modern fashion\, demonstrating how clothing and material culture continue to influence art\, identity\, and design. Throughout the exhibition\, the museum will present lectures\, artist conversations\, and hands-on workshops that further explore these themes. \nExhibition Details\n\nExhibition: Luxe CT: Velvet Mills to Modern Runways\nVenue: Mystic Museum of Art\nDates: June 26-October 11\, 2026\nLocation: Mystic\, CT\n\nExhibition Highlights\nVisitors will experience: \n\ns\nWorks from Mystic Museum of Art’s permanent collection\nLoans from regional museums and organizations\n\nFeatured Partners\nThe exhibition includes contributions from: \n\nHistoric Stonington\nMashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center\nMystic Seaport Museum\nStudio Art Quilt Associates\, Connecticut Region\n\nFeatured Designers\nThe exhibition showcases work by designers with Connecticut ties\, including: \n\nXarea Lockhart\nToriana Sauro\nChristian Siriano\nPeter Som\n\nAdmission\n\nGeneral Admission: $12\nNew London County residents: $10\nSeniors (65+): $10\nStudents with valid ID: $10\nFree:\n\nMystic Museum of Art members\nYouth ages 17 and under\nMilitary personnel and veterans\n\n\n\nExhibition Programs\nPublic programs are held on select Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. \nTuesday\, July 7\nMystic Mudlarking: The River and the Rossie Velvet Mill \n\nGuest speaker: Mary Hendrickson\n\nTuesday\, July 21\nImmigration and Industry \n\nGuest speaker: Chelsea Mitchell\, Library Director & Collections Manager\, Historic Stonington\n\nTuesday\, September 1\nConversation with Alana Ryder and Emerging Designers \nFeaturing: \n\nAlana Ryder\nXarea Lockhart\nToriana Sauro\n\nWorkshops\nAll workshops take place in KTJ Studios. \nSaturday\, September 19\nFrom Textile to Art: Felt Collage Workshop \nSaturday\, September 26\nIntroduction to Sewing Workshop \n\nFeatured designer: Toriana Sauro\n\nSaturday\, October 10\nRelief Printing on Silk Scarf Workshop \nWhy Visit\nLuxe CT examines how textiles have connected communities across centuries while reflecting the region’s history of manufacturing\, immigration\, craftsmanship\, and artistic innovation. SUMMARY:Brickwrecks: Sunken Ships in LEGO Bricks
DESCRIPTION:Brickwrecks: Sunken Ships in LEGO Bricks drops visitors into centuries of maritime mystery and disaster at Mystic Seaport Museum.. The internationally touring exhibition combines massive LEGO® ship recreations with real maritime history\, creating an experience that feels part museum exhibit\, part interactive adventure.

SUMMARY:American Girl: A Tribute to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
DESCRIPTION:American Girl: A Tribute to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers comes to the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun on Sunday\, August 23\, bringing a night of classic American rock built around one of the most enduring songbooks of the past 50 years. \nThe free concert begins at 7 p.m. inside the Wolf Den\, where the Long Island-based six-piece will recreate the sound of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers\, from the ringing guitars and Hammond organ to the melodies that made songs like “American Girl” instantly recognizable. \nFor longtime Petty fans\, this is more than a greatest-hits catalog. The band has built its show around reproducing the chemistry of the Heartbreakers themselves. \nMore Than Just the Guy Out Front\nAmerican Girl approaches Petty’s music as the work of a band rather than simply trying to imitate its famous frontman. \nThat distinction matters. \nTom Petty was one of rock’s great songwriters and performers\, but the Heartbreakers developed a sound around him that was every bit as important. Mike Campbell’s economical guitar work and Benmont Tench’s keyboards became defining pieces of records that rarely sounded overproduced\, even as they filled arenas. \nAmerican Girl’s six musicians take on those individual roles. \nLou F. Kennedy handles lead vocals and guitar\, taking the central role in recreating Petty’s distinctive vocal delivery and stage presence. \nBrian Gabriel takes the lead guitar position associated with Mike Campbell\, providing the jangling riffs\, melodic leads and restrained guitar work that became one of the signatures of the Heartbreakers’ sound. \nDante Fiorio handles keyboards\, including the piano and Hammond organ textures associated with longtime Heartbreaker Benmont Tench. \nThe rhythm section features Phil Tuzzolo on drums and Frank Cabanach on bass\, while multi-instrumentalist John Faughey fills out the arrangements with backing vocals\, keyboards\, percussion\, harmonica and acoustic and electric guitars. \nThat six-piece lineup gives American Girl room to reproduce some of the layers that made the original recordings work without turning the songs into something they’re not. \nA Catalog That Spans Generations\nTom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their self-titled debut album in 1976\, introducing a sound that drew from rock and roll\, folk\, country and the emerging power-pop movement without fitting comfortably into any one of them. \n“American Girl” and “Breakdown” helped establish the band\, but 1979’s Damn the Torpedoes pushed the Heartbreakers into rock’s upper tier with “Refugee” and “Don’t Do Me Like That.” \nThe hits kept coming. \n“The Waiting\,” “Don’t Come Around Here No More” and “Learning to Fly” became Heartbreakers standards\, while Petty’s solo recordings added songs including “Free Fallin’\,” “I Won’t Back Down” and “Runnin’ Down a Dream” to the larger catalog. \nLater recordings such as “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” and the more reflective material from Wildflowers showed how comfortably Petty’s songwriting could move between arena rock and quieter storytelling. \nBy the time Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002\, their songs had already become fixtures of American rock radio. \nCapturing the Heartbreakers Sound\nAmerican Girl describes its goal as capturing the chemistry of the original Heartbreakers rather than simply dressing the part. \nIt’s a sensible approach to Petty’s music because many of these songs aren’t technically flashy. Their power comes from what the musicians don’t play as much as what they do. \nA guitar enters at exactly the right moment. An organ sits beneath the chorus. The rhythm section pushes without overwhelming the song. \nThen there’s that voice. \nAmerican Girl builds its performances around those familiar musical ingredients while emphasizing the hooks and arrangements audiences already know. \nThe result is designed as a celebration of the records rather than a reinvention of them. \nA Sunday Night at the Wolf Den\nThe Wolf Den setting should suit this material particularly well. \nLocated in the center of Mohegan Sun’s Casino of the Earth\, the venue has spent decades presenting free concerts by national touring artists\, veteran performers and some of the region’s strongest tribute bands. \nThere’s no sprawling arena separating the audience from the musicians here. The relatively intimate room puts the band close to the crowd\, which should work nicely for songs built to produce a roomful of people singing the same chorus. \nAnd there are plenty of those choruses. \nFrom “American Girl” and “Refugee” to “Free Fallin’” and “I Won’t Back Down\,” Sunday night’s concert offers a trip through a body of music that has remained remarkably durable. \nYounger listeners have discovered it long after the records were released. Older fans have been carrying these songs around for decades. \nEither way\, chances are you’ll know the words. \nEvent Details\nEvent: American Girl: A Tribute to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers\nDate: Sunday\, August 23\, 2026\nTime: 7 p.m.\nLocation: Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun\nAddress: 1 Mohegan Sun Boulevard\, Uncasville\, CT 06382\nAdmission: Free \nAmerican Girl is a six-piece Long Island-based tribute band celebrating the music of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers\, with musicians recreating the guitars\, keyboards\, rhythms and vocal arrangements behind Petty’s extensive catalog. \nSeating at the Wolf Den is limited and available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Because popular performances can draw substantial crowds\, arriving early is recommended. \n\nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown.

SUMMARY:Revisiting Creedence at the Garde Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Revisiting Creedence at the Garde Arts Center brings one of rock’s most recognizable catalogs to New London on Sunday\, August 23\, with a band that has a much closer connection to Creedence Clearwater Revival than the typical tribute act. \nThe concert begins at 7 p.m. at the historic Garde Arts Center. Tickets range from $42 to $62 plus fees. \nExpect an evening packed with CCR classics including “Fortunate Son\,” “Proud Mary\,” “Bad Moon Rising\,” “Have You Ever Seen the Rain\,” “Green River\,” “Born on the Bayou\,” “Down on the Corner\,” “Who’ll Stop the Rain” and “Up Around the Bend.” \nThis Isn’t Your Typical CCR Tribute Band\nThe distinction between Revisiting Creedence and a conventional tribute act is worth explaining. \nCreedence Clearwater Revival’s original run was remarkably short. The band released its first album in 1968 and broke up in 1972\, but during those few years created an extraordinary string of songs that became part of the American rock songbook. \nDecades later\, original CCR bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug “Cosmo” Clifford formed Creedence Clearwater Revisited\, taking the music back on the road without singer\, guitarist and principal songwriter John Fogerty. \nThat group toured for approximately 25 years. \nAnd that’s where the musicians coming to New London enter the story. \nRevisiting Creedence lead singer Dan McGuinness and guitarist Kurt Griffey toured the world alongside Cook and Clifford as members of Creedence Clearwater Revisited. When the two original CCR members retired from touring\, McGuinness and Griffey continued performing the music they had already spent years playing alongside them. \nSo while audiences aren’t seeing original members of Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Garde\, they’re seeing musicians who were chosen to stand onstage and perform this material with them. \nThat’s a considerably stronger lineage than most tribute shows can claim. \nMeet Revisiting Creedence\nDan McGuinness — Lead Vocals \nMcGuinness toured internationally with original CCR members Stu Cook and Doug Clifford as lead vocalist for Creedence Clearwater Revisited. He now takes the lead role in carrying that material forward with Revisiting Creedence. \nKurt Griffey — Lead Guitar \nGriffey also toured with Cook and Clifford in Creedence Clearwater Revisited. His résumé extends well beyond the CCR catalog\, including performances with Carlos Santana and musicians associated with the Eagles\, Journey\, Foreigner\, Lynyrd Skynyrd\, The Moody Blues and Wings. \nRon Wikso — Drums \nWikso’s connection is equally interesting. Doug Clifford personally selected him to substitute on drums in Creedence Clearwater Revisited. Wikso has also performed with major acts including Foreigner and the Steve Miller Band. \nMick Mahan — Bass \nMahan brings another direct connection to the Creedence story. He was recruited to record CCR material by John Fogerty himself and spent more than three decades touring with Pat Benatar. \nPut those four résumés together and the result isn’t a group of musicians who simply decided they liked Creedence songs. \nThey’ve already lived with this music professionally. \nA Remarkable Catalog Built in Just a Few Years\nPart of the appeal of a show like this is realizing how many familiar songs Creedence Clearwater Revival produced during such a compressed period. \n“Proud Mary.” “Bad Moon Rising.” “Green River.” “Down on the Corner.” “Fortunate Son.” “Travelin’ Band.” “Run Through the Jungle.” “Who’ll Stop the Rain.” “Lookin’ Out My Back Door.” “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” \nThe songs blended rock and roll\, country\, blues and Southern roots influences into the swamp-rock sound associated with CCR\, despite the original band coming from California. \nRevisiting Creedence’s repertoire reaches deeply into that catalog\, including not only the biggest radio standards but songs such as “Long As I Can See the Light\,” “The Midnight Special” and “Suzie Q.” \nFor anyone who grew up with classic-rock radio\, there’s a decent chance you’ll recognize the opening bars of one song after another. \nContinuing the Creedence Live Tradition\nRevisiting Creedence isn’t presented as a recreation of CCR circa 1969. \nInstead\, the band’s history follows a fairly unusual path. \nCCR ended in the early 1970s. Cook and Clifford eventually returned to the road as Creedence Clearwater Revisited\, where McGuinness and Griffey became part of the live presentation of those songs. Revisiting Creedence grew from that experience after Cook and Clifford stepped away from touring. \nIt creates a direct musical connection between the current show and the musicians who originally recorded the songs more than half a century ago. \nClassic Rock Inside a Classic New London Theater\nSunday’s concert also arrives during a milestone year for the Garde Arts Center. \nThe State Street theater opened in 1926 as a vaudeville house and movie palace\, making 2026 its centennial year. After surviving decades of changes in downtown New London\, the restored theater has become one of southeastern Connecticut’s major performing arts venues. \nIts approximately 1\,400-seat main theater also creates a considerably more intimate environment than many of the large outdoor festivals and venues where this music has been performed over the years. \nThere’s something fitting about that combination: songs that have survived for more than half a century filling a New London theater celebrating a century of its own. \nEvent Details\nEvent: Revisiting Creedence\nDate: Sunday\, August 23\, 2026\nTime: 7 p.m.\nTickets: $42–$62 plus fees\nLocation: Garde Arts Center\nAddress: 325 State Street\, New London\, CT 06320 \nAudiences can expect music from throughout the Creedence Clearwater Revival catalog\, performed by musicians with direct professional connections to the original CCR members and Creedence Clearwater Revisited. \nMore information is available at the Event Website link below. \nTo purchase tickets\, click the Event Ticketing link below. \n\n  \nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown.

SUMMARY:Women of ’76: A Theatrical Tribute to Lesser-Known Women of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Women of ’76: A Theatrical Tribute to Lesser-Known Women of the American Revolution brings five remarkable Revolutionary-era women to life at the UNITED Theatre in Westerly on Sunday\, August 23. \nPresented at 5:30 p.m. in the UNITED Main Cinema\, the one-woman theatrical performance stars actor and playwright Rita Parisi\, who uses period clothing\, changing characters and historical storytelling to introduce audiences to women whose experiences rarely receive the attention given to the Revolution’s generals and Founding Fathers. \nThe performance is presented by the League of Women Voters of South County in recognition of Women’s Equality Day and the 250th anniversary of the United States. \nFive Women\, Five Very Different Revolutions\nThe American Revolution wasn’t experienced from a single point of view. \nWomen of ’76 follows five women from different backgrounds and allegiances\, including Patriots and Loyalists and women born both in America and abroad. Some witnessed history unfolding around them. Others actively changed its course. \nAmong the stories is that of a Massachusetts housewife who organized an all-female militia and helped capture suspected British spies. \nAnother follows a German baroness who accompanied her Hessian general husband into British military camps\, providing a very different perspective on a conflict usually told from the American side. \nAudiences will also meet a Georgia farmer’s wife who confronted a Redcoat search party by herself. \nTwo additional women complete the performance\, allowing Parisi to move among different regions\, social positions and loyalties while examining what revolution looked like to people who weren’t sitting in the Continental Congress. \nOne of the Women Has a New London Connection\nOne story has an especially strong connection to southeastern Connecticut. \nMary Katherine Goddard\, one of the women featured in the program\, was born in New London in 1738. \nGoddard became a printer\, newspaper publisher and postmaster in Baltimore. Her place in Revolutionary history became particularly significant after the Declaration of Independence had been adopted. \nIn January 1777\, Goddard printed the first broadside of the Declaration to publicly include the names of most of its signers. \nHer own name appeared at the bottom as printer. \nThat detail makes Goddard an especially fitting subject for Women of ’76. She wasn’t standing on a battlefield\, but she played a role in physically distributing the words and names that publicly committed the signers to the Revolution. \nHer inclusion also gives Sunday’s Westerly audience a direct regional connection to the larger national story. \nRita Parisi Brings History to the Stage\nRather than presenting these stories as a conventional history lecture\, Rita Parisi performs them. \nParisi is an actor and playwright who founded Waterfall Productions in 2005. For more than two decades\, she has toured original solo theatrical works throughout New England\, the Mid-Atlantic and Florida. \nHer specialty is historical and literary performance. \nPeriod costumes\, changes in dialect\, physical mannerisms and character monologues allow Parisi to move between historical figures while providing the context audiences need to understand the world surrounding them. \nHer work has been supported by more than 100 arts and cultural grants\, and her performances have appeared at libraries\, museums\, historical societies and cultural organizations around the region. \nWomen of ’76 is particularly suited to that approach. Instead of reducing these women to names and dates\, the theatrical format attempts to restore something history books can’t easily provide: a voice. \nLooking Beyond the Founding Fathers\nThe performance arrives during the national celebration of America’s 250th anniversary\, providing an opportunity to reconsider whose stories are included when Americans talk about the country’s founding. \nWomen couldn’t vote. They couldn’t hold elected office. Their legal and economic rights were severely restricted compared with those of men. \nYet they operated farms and businesses\, published newspapers\, traveled with armies\, gathered information\, supported military efforts and lived with the consequences of a war unfolding around their homes. \nLoyalist women complicate the story further. Independence wasn’t universally supported\, and families and communities could find themselves divided by the Revolution. \nBy placing women with different loyalties and backgrounds together in a single performance\, Women of ’76 presents the Revolution as something messier and more human than a simple procession toward July 4\, 1776. \nCelebrating Women’s Equality Day\nThe timing of the performance also connects Revolutionary history with another chapter in the long struggle over American citizenship. \nWomen’s Equality Day is observed August 26\, commemorating the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920\, which prohibited denying the right to vote on the basis of sex. \nThe League of Women Voters itself emerged directly from the women’s suffrage movement\, making its presentation of Women of ’76 particularly appropriate. \nThe performance reaches farther back\, asking audiences to consider women who helped shape the country generations before women gained constitutional protection for their voting rights. \nEvent Details\nEvent: Women of ’76: A Theatrical Tribute to Lesser-Known Women of the American Revolution\nDate: Sunday\, August 23\, 2026\nTime: 5:30 p.m.\nLocation: UNITED Main Cinema\nVenue: The UNITED Theatre\nAddress: 5 Canal Street\, Westerly\, RI 02891\nPresented by: League of Women Voters of South County \nThe approximately one-hour solo theatrical performance features actor and playwright Rita Parisi portraying women from different sides and backgrounds during the American Revolution. \nMore information is available at the Event Website listed below. \nTo purchase or reserve admission\, click the Event Ticketing link below. \n  \nFeatured image is an artistic representation inspired by the event and may not depict the actual people\, location\, or activities shown. \n
