SUMMARY:74th Annual COMO Village Fair
DESCRIPTION:74th Annual COMO Village Fair returns to Stonington Borough on Saturday\, August 1\, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\, continuing a tradition that has brought families\, neighbors\, and visitors together for more than seven decades. Centered around picturesque Wadawanuck Square\, the fair transforms the heart of the Borough into a celebration of local artists\, community organizations\, live entertainment\, delicious food\, and family fun. Free to attend\, it remains one of southeastern Connecticut’s signature summer traditions while supporting the programs and mission of the Stonington Community Center (COMO). \nMore than 50 local artists and craftspeople will fill Artisan Row with handmade creations ranging from paintings and pottery to jewelry\, photography\, textiles\, and home décor. This year’s featured Village Fair artist\, Susan Scala\, will showcase her work\, and visitors can purchase the official 2026 Village Fair poster. Throughout the day\, guests can browse floral bouquets from the Stonington Garden Club\, hunt for treasures at the Friends of the Stonington Free Library’s used book sale\, and pick up the fair’s famous sweet bread\, a longtime Village Fair tradition. Local favorites including Noah’s Restaurant\, Lis Bake Shop\, and a variety of food trucks will be serving up everything from sweet treats to lunch favorites. \nThe fair also celebrates the organizations that make Stonington unique. Historic Stonington\, the Stonington Village Improvement Association\, La Grua Center\, and other nonprofit organizations will welcome visitors throughout the day\, while local musicians and youth performers from United Theatre provide live entertainment. Families will find activities around nearly every corner\, from children’s games and prizes to one of the day’s most anticipated events: Historic Stonington’s Pie Eating Contest. Beginning at noon on the west side of Wadawanuck Square\, contestants of all ages will compete to see who can finish their pie first—with hands behind their backs—in a lighthearted tradition that has quickly become a favorite during the community’s America 250 celebration. \nWhether you’re searching for a unique handmade gift\, enjoying live music\, sampling local food\, or simply spending a summer day exploring one of Connecticut’s most charming coastal villages\, the COMO Village Fair offers something for every generation. After 74 years\, it remains one of the community’s most beloved annual traditions and a perfect way to experience the best of Stonington. \nFair Highlights\n\nMore than 50 Connecticut artists and craftspeople on Artisan Row\nFeatured Village Fair artist Susan Scala and the official 2026 Village Fair poster\nLive music and performances throughout the day\, including youth performers from United Theatre\nHistoric Stonington Pie Eating Contest at noon (all ages welcome)\nFriends of the Stonington Free Library Used Book Sale\nFresh floral bouquets from the Stonington Garden Club\nCOMO’s famous sweet bread\nFood trucks plus local favorites including Noah’s Restaurant and Lis Bake Shop\nMeet Historic Stonington\, the Stonington Village Improvement Association\, La Grua Center\, and other community organizations\nChildren’s games\, prizes\, and family-friendly activities\n\nSpecial Event: 1864 Vintage Baseball Doubleheader\nAs part of Connecticut’s America 250 celebration\, Historic Stonington\, the COMO\, and the National Association of Historic Base Ball Clubs will host an authentic 1864-style vintage baseball doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. on COMO’s Bears Field. SUMMARY:Historic Stonington Pie Eating Contest
DESCRIPTION:Historic Stonington Pie Eating Contest returns to Wadawanuck Square on Saturday\, August 1\, at 12:00 p.m.\, inviting contestants and spectators alike to celebrate one of America’s most delicious traditions. Held during the 74th Annual COMO Village Fair as part of Stonington’s America 250 celebration\, the friendly competition transforms the west side of the square into a lively gathering where cheers\, laughter\, and a little bit of whipped cream are guaranteed. \nThe contest welcomes participants of all ages with three divisions: children ages 12 and under\, teens ages 13 to 18\, and adults 19 and older. Younger competitors tackle a whipped cream pie without a crust\, while teens and adults race to finish individual apple pies. The challenge is simple but far from easy: contestants must keep their hands behind their backs while eating\, and the first person to finish their pie claims victory and plenty of bragging rights. \nEven if you don’t plan to compete\, the Pie Eating Contest is one of the Village Fair’s most entertaining attractions. Friends\, family members\, and curious fairgoers line the square to cheer on contestants as they tackle the messy challenge\, making it one of the day’s biggest crowd-pleasers. Whether you’re entering the competition or simply watching the fun unfold\, it’s a memorable way to experience the community spirit that has defined Stonington’s summer traditions for generations. \nSpace is limited to just eight contestants in each age division and participation is available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Because the pies contain ingredients that may trigger allergies\, organizers note they are unable to accommodate food allergies. \nEvent Details\nEvent: Historic Stonington Pie Eating Contest \nDate: Saturday\, August 1\, 2026 \nTime: 12:00 p.m. \nLocation: West Side of Wadawanuck Square\nStonington Borough\, CT \nAdmission: Free to watch.
