SUMMARY:Thursdays Aboard ARGIA: Seaside Shadows Haunted Seafarers
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays aboard ARGIA: Seaside Shadows Haunted Seafarers blends ghost stories\, maritime history\, and sunset sailing into one eerie shoreline experience aboard ARGIA. Hosted in partnership with Seaside Shadows Haunted History Tours\, the event explores centuries of supernatural legends tied to Mystic and the surrounding coastal waters while guests sail through the same harbors and waterways where many of the stories originated. \nDuring the two-hour sail\, storytellers from Seaside Shadows guide passengers through chilling tales connected to colonial conflicts\, shipwrecks\, vanished sailors\, wartime encounters\, and unexplained happenings stretching back to the Pequot Wars\, King Philip’s War\, the Revolutionary War\, and the War of 1812. The stories lean heavily into the darker side of New England maritime history\, using the setting of the water itself to heighten the atmosphere as daylight fades along the shoreline. \nThe combination of live storytelling\, ocean air\, and the creaking wooden schooner creates an experience that feels part history lesson and part ghost story gathering at sea. Scheduled sailings include May 21 at 6:00 PM and October 8 at 5:00 PM\, both lasting approximately two hours. Guests can reserve tickets through the ARGIA website by selecting the appropriate date and sailing time. For fans of haunted history\, folklore\, and atmospheric New England storytelling\, this may be one of the most immersive ghost-themed events on the shoreline calendar. \n

SUMMARY:Haunted Seafarers Sail Takes Mystic’s Ghost Stories Onto the Water
DESCRIPTION:Haunted Seafarers Sail Takes Mystic’s Ghost Stories Onto the Water Oct. 8 as Seaside Shadows boards the schooner ARGIA for a two-hour sunset voyage through centuries of shipwrecks\, warfare\, lost sailors\, and supernatural lore surrounding Mystic and its waters. \nThere is something different about hearing a ghost story when you’re floating through the place where it supposedly happened. \nThat is the idea behind the Seaside Shadows Haunted Seafarers Sail\, which trades the streets and graveyards of a traditional ghost tour for the deck of an 81-foot schooner. \nARGIA leaves Mystic at 5 p.m. Thursday\, Oct. 8\, just as the October daylight begins giving way to evening. For the next two hours\, storytellers from Seaside Shadows Haunted History Tours will dig into the darker side of a community whose history has always been tied to the sea. \nMystic’s Haunted History Looks Different From the Water\nMystic’s postcard image is filled with sailboats\, historic homes and a river running through the center of town. \nIts history isn’t nearly as peaceful. \nThe stories aboard ARGIA stretch back to the upheaval of 17th-century colonial New England\, including the Pequot War and King Philip’s War\, before moving through the Revolutionary era and the War of 1812. \nBetween those conflicts are the dangers that were simply part of living and working on the New England coast. \nShipwrecks. Cannon fire. Sailors who left port and never came home. Strange encounters in the fog. Generations of people who depended on unpredictable waters for their livelihoods and sometimes their survival. \nThat gives Seaside Shadows considerably more material to work with than invented Halloween tales. \nThe company specializes in blending documented local history\, folklore and reports of paranormal activity\, looking for the places where one begins to bleed into another. \nSeaside Shadows Has Been Digging Into Mystic’s Dark Side Since 2013\nSeaside Shadows was founded in 2013 by author and historian Courtney McInvale Reardon\, who built the company around the idea that a ghost tour could tell legitimate local history without losing the fun of a supernatural story. \nMcInvale Reardon published Haunted Mystic the following year. \nIts regular Downtown Mystic Ghost Tour follows roughly a mile through the historic village\, crossing the Mystic River and moving through stories spanning several centuries. Revolutionary heroes\, lost seafarers\, mysterious deaths\, cryptids and reported apparitions all become part of the larger story. \nThe Haunted Seafarers Sail changes the perspective. \nInstead of standing beside the river hearing about Mystic’s maritime past\, passengers are out on the water aboard a traditional sailing vessel while the stories are being told. \nThat’s an unusually appropriate stage for tales about people who disappeared at sea. \nARGIA Adds Some Atmosphere of Its Own\nARGIA isn’t a modern sightseeing boat decorated to look vaguely nautical. \nThe vessel is a traditional two-masted\, gaff-rigged schooner\, designed to evoke the sailing vessels that once crowded the waterways of coastal New England. \nAt approximately 81 feet long\, ARGIA normally carries passengers on two-hour sails from downtown Mystic during its sailing season. \nOn this trip\, however\, the scenery isn’t the whole point. \nThe schooner becomes part of the storytelling. \nPassengers leave from Steamboat Wharf and head onto the Mystic River and surrounding waters while the crew handles the vessel and Seaside Shadows supplies the tales. \nThe timing should help. \nThe Oct. 8 departure is at 5 p.m.\, meaning the trip begins in the late-afternoon light and continues toward darkness. The shoreline gradually loses its detail\, lights begin appearing along the coast and the water becomes considerably less inviting than it looked an hour earlier. \nFor most cruises\, that’s called a sunset. \nFor a ghost tour\, it’s production value. \nWar\, Shipwrecks and Things in the Fog\nThe stories planned for the voyage cover an unusually large sweep of local history. \nThe Pequot War brings the narrative back to the violent colonial conflicts of the 1630s. King Philip’s War follows later in the century\, when another devastating conflict spread across New England. \nThe Revolutionary War and War of 1812 add another period when the waters around southeastern Connecticut were anything but peaceful. \nBut some of the best maritime ghost stories don’t need armies. \nThe sea supplied plenty of tragedy on its own. \nFor generations\, mariners along the New England coast faced storms\, navigational hazards\, collisions\, disease and the possibility that a vessel could simply fail to return. Before radio communications and modern rescue services\, families could be left with little more than uncertainty about what had happened. \nThose disappearances helped create the kind of folklore found throughout old seafaring communities: phantom vessels\, mysterious lights\, unexplained figures and sailors seemingly unwilling to leave the waters where they died. \nWhether someone boards ARGIA as a believer\, skeptic or simply a fan of a good ghost story hardly matters. \nThe history is real enough. \nA Ghost Tour That Couldn’t Happen Anywhere Else\nThat’s ultimately what makes this event interesting. \nA haunted boat ride could be staged almost anywhere by adding actors\, decorations and a few jump scares. \nThis isn’t that. \nThe Haunted Seafarers Sail uses the actual maritime history of Mystic and southeastern Connecticut\, told by a local company that has spent years researching the area’s darker stories\, aboard a schooner sailing through the same waters that created many of those stories in the first place. \nThere are no haunted-house corridors to walk through. \nNo costumed monster needs to jump from behind a wall. \nOn an October evening\, a wooden schooner\, a darkening shoreline\, centuries of maritime deaths and a little fog would probably be enough. \nMore information is available at the Event Website link below.
